Real Madrid (A) Post Match Thread

Pep is not to blame for international footballers on 6 figures a week conceding 3 goals in 3 minutes in a semi final.‍♂️
I never said he was though ?

I was discussing his Champions League record in General since his only ever success at Barcelona.

I actually make the point he wasn't directly to blame for tonight.

My point was he made substitutions in the belief the game was won.

Unfortunately the defense totally capitulated in just 180 seconds.

From being moments away from a Final we then needed a moment of brilliance from somewhere, and all the game changers had been substituted with Sunday in mind.

Extra time consisted of watching Sterling run in to players and fall over.Hoping maybe he will do something right.

City were mugged tonight. Plain and simple. Everything that could go right for Real Madrid went right. City now need to pick themselves up and focus on winning the league. Come on City.

Sometimes I think it was better when all we played for was not being relegated because this is stealing my sleep.

We lost that game not because we are not good enough but because we lack leadership. 2 up a few minutes to go you start playing ugly.

You get a few fouls.

You “pull” a hammie.

You get “concussed”.

All this trying to score instead of plying into the corner and retaining possession cost us.

We are not ready for the CL it takes more than great football to win and Madrid proved that!
I’m not sleeping particularly well recently

I’m starting to wonder whether Dias has lost his influence over the rest of the players this season, or they’ve stopped responding to him/believing in him to some extent, nowhere near the same player as last season, or playing on the right, he looks error prone there and nowhere near as comfortable.

Said it before but I think that Dias/Laporte partnership is the weakest combination for us, they just don’t seem to compliment each other as well as others do, and Laporte going down from a dig from Modric ! That was fuckin embarrassing.

Anyway, we need to pull ourselves together now and need the leaders in the dressing room to stand up and be counted, if they don’t their legacy will be tarnished as we’ll NEVER hear the end of it if we let the dippers in.

Thought it a poor and indecisive display even first 89 minutes. Agree with many on here, can only see Madrid's grandpas getting slapped by a few goals in the final. Not sure on questions about the team's mental strength though, there were a couple posts in match thread that ahead of back 4 is basically Rodri holding + 5 lightweight attackers. This cost us in Monaco some years ago and still seeing it in an away leg, throw in Cancelo + Zinchenko who are much better in middle third of the pitch than defending backs to the wall style and it's an issue of team balance. Can't expect De Bruyne/Mahrez to thunder into tackles just because it's an important game, or Grealish to cover the flanks and close down like Milner when it's not his game.

Feel that if we had built our side for power and physicality like Mourinho's Chelsea or current Liverpool we'd be a scary prospect in these cup games. As is even the worst Atletico & Real Madrid of the last few years know they can leave it last few minutes as there's always the possibility of quickfire goals. Maybe our next manager can be our version of Enrique at Barca, instill some grit and directness and we'll have our most successful spell. Then gradually over time we'll forget about positional play & exploring the half spaces, a Mancini equivalent comes in to shore up the defence and the cycle begins again.

Btw who the fuck is this Rodrigo guy? is he a bit older Kayky? looks about that.

he had 4 La Liga goals only in last season + this one, over 2000 minutes played. thats like 23 starts and was subbed in for 30 times so is a regular in rotation so to say.
only turned 21 recently so thats understandable.

how they get a guy like this to be so clinical in crucial CL moments?
clearly this is something we dont have to have an option on bench as a young player to pull this off. neither an old one or anyone with killer instinct. neither in first 11.

I mean we had Torres but sold him...
I think even he would have put away a few of those missed Foden, Mahrez, grealish chances all mised vs Real.
Rodrygo, not Rodrigo. Came from the Santos Academy, one of the most successful in Brazil. Has been in the shadow of Vinicius Jr, but always been a very talented guy on his own. Might have secured a spot in the World Cup squad last night

I think I needed more than a week to feel better after the Spurs game

Hopefully this recovery will be shorter
