Another weak refereeing performance, where if the crowd shouts and moans loud enough, they'll get calls their team didn't deserve.
The Luton fans moaned at a Gvardiol throw-in, so loudly that it stuck in the refs head IMO but I couldn't see anything wrong with it. I was fairly certain neither of the foul throws given against Gvardiol and Bernardo were foul throws. So much so, that I went back to look at them to see if I had missed something. What was it that they thought they saw?
At a guess, they are probably looking at the point at which the ball was released but that's a common misconception because apparently, nowhere in the laws of the game does it say you have to release the ball above the head or before it etc
I could be wrong but it looked as though after Bernardo asked what was wrong with his throw-in, the ref just repeated "foul throw" and shurgged his shoulders, as if he wasn't quite sure himself what the crowd were moaning about.
The foul on Foden was a red card for me, if that was Rodri or Kova they'd have walked... and if they didn't, there would be people moaning in droves about it. They even chanted 2-1 to the referee after City went ahead, showing why refs shouldn't listen to the emotional idiots in the crowd too much. I vaguely remember a similar performance earlier in the season where I said the same about weak refereeing, either Forest or Wolves, I think. Even if it's for goal kicks when it should have been a corner, or throwins, rather than game changing decisions, the standards really ought to be higher than that for PL football.
