The ref sent him off. VAR then have to find a reason that the ref was clearly and obviously wrong to do so, not try and show that he was right. If they felt he was wrong they would have asked him to look at the screen himself but they couldn’t find any evidence that he was wrong to send him off so stuck with the decision.What I don’t get is, how did it take a 3 minute VAR check for them to validate the red? Surely if it’s as clear and obvious as it looks (hands on neck) then there’s no grey area…or is there?
That process would actually have been a positive for us had Rodri not done anything worthy of a red card, but he did.
