The Italian scandal is particularly pertinent in this, part of the alleged Moggi effect was the involvement with the media, for which no one was ever convicted. The allegation was that certain decisions and incidents in games were highlighted and others weren't. Oddly enough it seems that for one team the media would highlight all the positives and gloss over negative images for the others the reverse. Now does that sound familiar to anybody here?

This is absolutely spot on. That is exactly what Moggi did. It is also exactly what happens here. It is beyond naive to think everything is above board. There is widespread corruption I am sure of it.

Before a game, referees will know which players are a card away from a ban. They also know the next fixtures of each team. It's not difficult to surmise that this doesn't affect their judgement. It just takes a little bit of creative writing of the post match report to bring the disciplinary panel into play.

If there is nothing dodgy going on, then why are there so many spurious and fake arguments repeatedly made against the use of video technology in football by FIFA/UEFA/FA?

There are a number of mechanisms available to manipulate the outcome of a game. With the amount of money bet on Premiership games across the world it would be crazy to think that corruption doesn't exist at some level in our beloved game, even if it's only spot betting in play. Multiple TV angles at all premiership games has made it a little more difficult, but we've all seen incidents that have had more than an element of suspicion about them.

Please stop this nonsense! Video technology plays even more into their hands. Who will control it?
Just like post match interviews for refs.... giving total control to the media to control the agenda/apply pressure.

I felt the ref in the soton v dippers game was similar to Mason, nothing to obvious but every 50/50 was for the scouse. Again doesn't make it a definate result but over 2 legs may have an impact but couldn't believe Lucas didn't get booked for an obvious block late on.

A lot of the Italian corruption scandal was Juventus making sure the leagues best players were suspended in games against them and rivals players were suspended in difficult games, while there players were very rarely missing games. Makes the sending off pattern in 2012 and against this year look even more suspicious.

Exactly and for those asking how is it done, this is the way along with refusing to give nailed on penalties, something else we have consistently suffered from as well.

It's mostly down to 'suggestion' rather than full on corruption (although full on corruption is the reason for ffp etc).

It's easier to send off one of our players than a Utd player, for example, either during or after a game. The comeback for sending off Ibrahimovic & Utd losing, is heavy even if you get it right & almost life changing if you get it wrong.

Failling to send off an opposing player who does it to Utd, is hell if you miss it, but not so bad if you send him off & Utd win & it transpires he did fuck all wrong. It's just 'meh' 'the ref has a tough job' & on to the next game.

The incident with Luiz at City, was shown on tv, most thought it was a red, but the story since, is City's red cards & Chelsea 'humilliating' us.

If that's a rags game, the whole thing would be historically down to that incident. The result & the Utd reaction, would be the ref's fault. Forever.

They know it. It's in the back of their minds for the games involving the Sky teams. With City, they can do what the fuck they want & if they get it wrong, we probably 'deserve it' anyhow.

We should also consider that due to media hype, taking charge of games at the Swamp or Klanfield will be regarded as the pinnacle by referees domestically, and they will not wish to jeopardise their chances of officiating there long term by making the kind of decisions that will be shredded in the papers if they get them wrong. Maureen, like Taggart before him, knows it, which is why calculatingly hysterical overreaction to even the most mild of decisions to go against them is business as usual at the Swamp.

Maureen is even inviting Taggart to sit next to him on the bench, what is all that about?
