Relocating The Away Fans: Your Preferred Choice

Keep away fans in the south stand as they are, keep the south stand and singing section as they are.
Move both levels of the family stand up one tier (or even have both the end 3rd tiers as family stand), have operation one end in the north stand level 1. That was we have the normal away fan banter that we have usually in the south stand, but in the North stand we have one full tier of city fans that want to sing all the time. That would be my preferred choice.

EAST LEVEL 3 for me.

Why?

Because they can see us, the South Stand singing section, and we'll still be able to see them.

In essence the banter can still continue, but from a longer distance.

And if we could get Operation One End going properly with the help of the club, that would look awesome at pitch level and from the 3rd tier, where the away fans will be.

We've tried it and it failed miserably.

trying it twice does not count as really testing it, it could take a long time to see the benefite.

We tried it against villareal who had no fans, and also score in the first 5 minutes ?? which will subdue the atmosphere. Btw sitting in the north stand when the whole section sung it was a lot louder than normal.

Bayern was the only other time.

Both times in the champions league where nearly all of our games have been full of glroy hunters and new fans so to speak. We had a new section meant for singers, but it ws full of families and people taking pictures.

The only way to get a good atmposphere is to move the away fans because as it is right now the atmosphere is terrible most games and getting worse, somehting needs to be done

Two points.

If the away fans are relocated to either 3rd tiers of the East or South Stands, the first x amount of rows will have to remain empty. This willll stop away fans abusing City fans below on 2nd level, and possibly deter them from throwing objects at City fans below.

The above scenario happened at OT for the Semi-final of the Capital One Cup a few years back. City were given the top tier of the K Stand., and the first x amount of rows were closed and meshed off.

I'm guessing the £299 season tickets will be bought by Families. If those seats are located next to the away fans on the 3rd level of the South Stand, those City fans/families will come in for some serious abuse from the away fans.

Serious consideration has to be made about moving away fans to either 3rd tier.

As others have stated, it would be ideal if the away fans in the lower tier and the singers in 111/110/111 could be flipped. This would keep the away fans next to the singers, who would then occupy the whole of the South Stand lower tier. The problem that leaves is accommodating the away fans on level 2 of the South Stand.

For cup & European games though they'd get the full bottom 2 tiers of the SS as now.

3rd tier East for me

Exactly.... 3rd tier, is the best option... Out of the way, as far away from their team as possible, not in front of the TV camera's and no blues need to be moved for Cup games... If its a smaller away allocation, block off the right side of the stand and sell on a pay of the gate basis to blues who don't go every week... Best of both worlds...

Think of it like this.

"Barcelona* stick away fans in the Gods. Madrid stick away fans in the Gods. Etc.(see above)
Newcastle and Sunderland do it. United tried it but got knocked back due to concerns regarding opposing fans crossing each other under the North Stand.

I'd guess that there's a level of support high up within the club that would like to see away fans moved to level 3, thus allowing the lower tier to be full of City fans, which would give the team a psychological advantage during matches.

Cast your mind back to 2 games in particular last season. Arsenal and United. Both late goals came at the end where the away fans are, and their players ran over and celebrated in front of the away fans. In essence in front of our vocal support.

Cast your mind back to the FA Cup derby at the Etihad. 6000 United fans filling the South Stand. They same with other teams in the FA Cup. Not good.

Another occasion was Dortmund at home in the CL. Let's give their fans some credit for signing non-stop for 90 minutes. Putting that aside, that kind of vocal support at pitch level inspires opposing players/teams. Up in the Gods it's less effective.

That kind of momentum/inspiration can't be given to away teams. That's my take on it. I think City will move the away fans to one of the 3rd tiers.

Fair enough twice isn't enough to categorically say it doesn't work, maybe it deserves another go but imo it will never work without the away fans. Speaking as somebody who is as close to the away fans as possible, whatever atmosphere that is currently generated is influenced hugely by the away support. I can't speak for everybody around me but I'm confident at least 90% of people who do currently sing either side of the away fans wouldn't want the away fans moved/would rather move to wherever they are moved to as opposed to having having a south stand full of City.

This is why i said i was curious to see where people currently sit given so many posts favouring east stand third tier.

3rd Tier anywhere for me - never understood why the away fans have such a prime position behind the goal at pitch level - most TV coverage seems to be from the side where the subs benches are so any activity in the south-stand goal always seems to be against a backdrop of the away fans - dead silent when we score, fans going ballistic when the away side scores. Added to that any lateish goal at the other end are often against a backdrop of a half empty family stand.

It shouldn't matter but it does - most people watch on the TV and we need to wise up a bit, shove the away fans out of sight of the TV cameras as most other clubs seem to do and pack the pitch level seats behind both goals with our most vocal fans.

How can ANYONE argue with this?!

Problem with Operation One End experiments is that the area that opens up when you move away fans does NOT get filled with people who are singers, but ANYONE AND EVERYONE WHO USUALLY CAN'T GET A DECENT TICKET!!

What the club needs to do is say "from the start of the 201X Season, blocks A thru Z are designated 'singing sections' where we hope to be able to have a safe standing zone in the near future (or just announce it will be safe standing) for our most vocal supporters to improve the atmosphere. As part of this plan, only those people who feel able to enjoy a standing and singing section should purchase tickets in these blocks. First choice will go to Seasoncard holders in the current 'singing sections' of Blocks _______, and then will be available to other seasoncard holders who want to relocate to those singing blocks. In turn, this will also open up new opportunities for fans who want to relocate from their current locations to others within the Stadium.
When this process takes place, the new away sections will be Blocks _______, with additional away fan space needed for Cup games and Champions Lge games, so fans in Blocks _______, will be UNABLE to join the Cup Schemes in their regular seasoncard locations, but will be the first accommodated in other areas of the Stadium for these games."

Sorted!

The "one end" thing was shyte and if the away fans are shifted upstairs say goodbye to any kind of atmosphere.

There is no atmosphere at most games already...don't make it even worse.

I say leave them where they are and also get rid of the segregation (showsec)

Fun days...loads of atmosphere.

-- Sat Jul 13, 2013 11:12 pm --
