Remembering Colin Bell

That's a great photo, but it's strange, that looks much more like Rodney than Colin to me.

Incidentally, my first kit didn't even have the badge. Of any kind. I remember being so proud when I first put that on. And I always loved the maroon trim on the socks. Still miss a touch of maroon (not red).
Blackpool away 1970?

How good was Colin Bell?

Was he as good as our club would have you believe or is he looked at with blue tinted glasses?

I was listening to the ManCity Show podcast this morning and they were waxing lyrical about Colin vs Kevin and arguing who was the better.

I started my city journey in the late 70's so never got to see him play.

Different era, different sport really but it had me wondering just how good was he?
Is he really comparable to the best player to have played the modern game in the PL?

Thoughts?

We”ll drink a drink a drink

He was the heartbeat of the side, a magnificent player and athlete who had it all. KDB at his peak is the closest any player has come to matching him, he was that good.

Ask this question on opposition forums, even rival ones and watch the older fellas wax lyrical about how great he was. That tells you all you need to know

Posters are correct. He had it all and he and Buzzer (who always got stuck in from minute 1) were the heartbeats that made the great side tick. Was stood directly behind the goal in 1974 when he equalised against Wolves and can still see his run and shot now, Cried like thousand of others when he reappeared after his knee assault. Got to know him quite well after he retired and he was a true gentleman. A lovely man. I bumped into him in M&S shortly before he began to withdraw from life. He was an old man and clearly tired but the spark came back when we started talking about his beloved City. Still think about him most weeks now as you do your heroes.

Me too regarding the Wolves game if you mean the league cup final? If you remember minutes later ( Or was it before) he made an identical run and hit the underside of the bar.

We absolutely battered Wolves that day with a forward line of Lee,Law, Marsh and Summerbee with Bell just behind. Only luck and an incredible performance in goal.by their rookie keeper Gary Pierce won it for them.

Yes 74 Lge Cup final. My other abiding memory was Dougan (I think but could have been Richards) winning foul after foul by sticking his arse out as far as he could when Booth or Doyle went to contest the hundreds of balls played ‘up front to the big man.’ ‘Making a back I think they call it. You are right we battered them. You could say it was just a typical City performance.
