Riyad Mahrez - 2018/2019 performances

Typical Mahrez performance tonight, I think it sums up his time here so far perfectly.

Slows the game. Ponderous in possession. Predictable and easy to defend against. Greedy in the final third when others are open. Gets a goal or assist.

Hes not bad, it's just so underwhelming. Club record fee, former POTY, we were supposed to be getting a player on the level of Silva/De Bruyne/Aguero who'd push the team on another level and instead we've got someone who isn't even close to pushing Sané and Sterling for a starting spot.

You don't get a De bruyne or Aguero for 60m these days mate. You don't even get a sane or sterling. The 'club record' argument is a bit misleading, because of how much the market has shifted.
Can't argue with much else

He has this season to learn how to play against a parked bus every game! Think he will be a keyman in champs league.
 
It doesn't matter how much a player costs, sometimes one will take longer to adjust than another,
Bernardo was frustrating at times last season and then this player looks on another level altogether, i will reserve judgement until this time next season.

You can get the next KDB or Aguero for around 60m these days though, if they're younger, and if you're smart. Not the finished product perhaps, but you can buy WC potential for that price.
 
The worrying thing re Mahrez is that I heard the a while back that one of Leicester's scouts loved him, but they always doubted his intelligence. They think he's exceptionally talented but that he doesn't have anywhere near the game intelligence of even Demarai Gray, despite being vastly more gifted. I brushed this off, but it really, really fits with what we watch week in week out.
 
I don’t think fans will ever take to him. Lots of moans and groans around today when he tried anything.

He needs to find a way because at the moment he is not doing enough to justify starts.
