Riyad Mahrez - 2018/2019 performances

He was mostly crap today.

Yes, I know he got the goal that made it comfortable, and took a good corner - and that's massively important and writes him into the history books when we remember this title - but he was terrible for almost every other minute of the game and looked like it was the first day in the team. He still looks lost.

That performance will do nothing to make him get picked again, Pep doesn't care about hitting one in from 30 yards once a season, he cares about everything else.

He looks no closer to fitting in then he did on the day he arrived, I don't know how he's going to fix that over the summer, but he has to, because next year we probably won't get so lucky with injuries to the front 3.
Wtf? He was as good as anyone on the park.

The Bernardo comparison is a fucking joke.

I tell you what, as everyone is too blinded by a goal to measure up his performance, lets see who's right in October.

Will he be delivering on being our record signing and a key part in the side starting most games, or will he still be sitting on the bench for weeks on end, and starting once every 2 months in the league.

If you lot turn out to be correct, I'll be the first to admit fault.
Why is it a joke? I'll tell you what the joke is: insinuating that Mahrez wouldn't come good. Perhaps an explanation as to why fans hold on to this belief might make us see why its not a joke otherwise it stays as a joke and you know it. Okay I'll go ahead and mention Sterling who was first thought to lack the brains to be able to play for us or David Silva who was thought to be too lightweight to make it in the PL or Bernado that was thought to slow things down for us - who now is our POTY.

Yes he was bought for a record sum but why do you hold it against him when he's on his learning curve? You of all people should know how difficult it is to play in a Pep system that has a lot of rehearsed moves and a lot of complexities. Why do you hold it against him as though it was his fault he came for a record sum?

Mahrez with amazing quality and composure ,defender had to dive in,because of his ability with both feet, then he smashes it top corner ,special goal in any circumstances

You are in a majority of one slagging him off today Dom. We are champions after a very hard season and you are intent on embarrassing yourself - crack on son

Bernardo SIlva and Riyadh Mahrez's first season have nothing in common.

If you think they do, then I don't believe you watched either season.

League games started after Christmas -

Bernardo 17/18 - 11
Mahrez 18/19 - 4 (including the one he got hooked 5 mins after half time he was so bad).

Games where Bernardo was not used last season - 4.
Games where Mahrez was not used this season - 17.

Mahrez just sat on the bench for 7 games in a row. Want to know how many consecutive games Bernardo was on the bench for last season? 0.

The two are not similar at all. Despite coming into a foreign league, not one he'd played in for 5 years, and despite being just 22, by December of his first season, Bernardo had become a player who was always involved in the team, he either started or was the first name off the bench.

I'll say it again, their two first seasons have nothing in common.

Well I guess if Pep drops him for another 7 consecutive games it'll be a majority of two.

You normally post reasonable stuff and we are all capable of making stupid posts, but seriously, after such a difficult season, of which Mahrez contributed winning goals, why are you on your high horse slagging him off.

Today we should all be celebrating, but for whatever reason, you feel the need to embarrass yourself.

As I say, you haven't much support from today's performance, maybe, that should tell you something

My post wasn't so much about how many games they started but what fans thought about them. Or do you want us to go down the route of digging up old posts?
A lot of people were frustrated tgat Pep wasn't playing him in the middle where they thought he'd flourish. They thought he slowed our attack too much but one year on, he's been massive.

Also last year Bernado was only up against Sane and Raheem. This year Mahrez is up against Sane, Raheem and a Bernado with one year under his belt. Stats won't show you that competition is keener this year compared to last year.
