Riyad Mahrez - 2018/2019 performances

Always looks petrified to me as if he's thinking 'I'm going to be found out at any minute'

Hopefully he'll come good - he's doing okish mind just needs to come to terms with the requirement to be playing at a consistently high level

Funny, I view him as slightly overconfident rather than petrified. He is almost shoot on sight. Not the best game tonight but he's doing fine. He had 2 gilt-edge opportunities today today, especially in the first half that he should have buried.

I am 100% certain Foden would have offered a lot more. given us more energy & more balance tonight . Mahrez was a tad better than sh*te ...

Kneejerking perhaps, but I thought that positionally Mahrez was absolutely disgusting, just woeful. He left so much space and holes for them to exploit. He also didn't make himself available for enough easy possession passes in my opinion. At times I didn't know if he was playing as a winger or as a midfielder because he wasn't doing either of those correctly.

He had this one challenge that stopped a promising counterattack, but that's the only positive thing that stuck for me defensively. He's going to have to start running if he wants to play on this team.

I do not understand why he is getting a lot of stick in here, whereas almost everybody else in the team had a dreadful performance last night and yet they are given all possible excuses. Whether we like it or not, he gave an assist to Aguero for the equalizer and he was behind the foul that gave us the first goal, not to mention that he worked his socks off and kept tracking back to help the defenders much more than Sane and Raheem. It is beyond me that people are still slugging him off for the missed penalty against Liverpool as though it has already cost us the title !

Everyone is scapegoating Mahrez , but to me he was invisible along with Sterling, Sane, Silva.

So I doubt that Foden would've made the difference
Sane had a very off night - kept losing the ball. He's supposed to take chances trying to beat the cover - which he did. Trouble is he lost the ball nearly every time he did so.

For me - Sane out, Foden into midfield, Sterling and Mahrez on the wing at half time. 2nd guessing the best manager in the world - but that's what seemed best at half time to me.

As an aside, why wasn't Foden started or at least subbed in at half time? It seems that Pep is very reluctant to trust/start youngsters unless they're Messi-like; Foden should have started IMO and failing that, should have come on at the start of 2nd half given how poor our performance was in the first.

I think he Stifles Sane's game somewhat with his lack of runs into dangerous areas(particularly back post) which Sane thrives in looking for. Which may explain why they've only started one league game together.
Also Sterling has 7 goals 6 assists in the league. 5 goals and 5 assists have come in the 5 games he's started alongside Sane
