Can anyone give examples of household name strikers who have been at a club in this country for many years, then moved at the peak age of 28/29 and won titles at other clubs ?

If this move is so obviuosly not a gamble, then surely there must be scores of these ?

Not really because there have not been scores of clubs that have won league titles in recent memory.
Major clubs signing big name strikers from other English sides have been few and far between,
Cole, Yorke, Sheringham and Cantona were obvious sucesses for Utd.
Berbatov was not
Anelka was pretty good at Chelsea, Torres so far has not been.
Shearer was great at Newcastle, Fowler flopped at Leeds.

But if you look at imports form other countries similar story.
Schevchenko, Rebrov, Crespo not very successful Torres, Aguero van Nistleroy pretty good.

RvP may or may not be a success the fact that he comes from another English club does not determine whether or not it's a gamble.

Re: Do we need RVP?

My main concerns are his injury record & his lack of pace at the highest level . But week in week out against most of the prem his movement makes up for it

Re: Do we need RVP?

This is the same kind of thinking that brought us roque santa cruz, and while yes they are in different categories as players, it is still similar circumstances

van persie was slightly above average until last year and never completed a season without multiple and very long term injuries until last year. is pushing 29, and for the kind of player that he is, cannot possibly see us getting more than a couple of good seasons from him at best. a very poor return on investment, and while yes it's not my money, i also don't like being a yo yo club, whether in terms of performances or player turn over. he's not maradona or messi, and even if we win a chumps league with him it won't endear him to me or give him legend status for me. add to that the fact that he never spoke highly of us during our transformation and i really don't want him here. we might be a team of mercenaries, but most of them are loyal mercenaries and wanted to be here long before we'd won hardly anything after the takeover

Re: Do we need RVP?

No we don't. He is old, he get's injuryed all the time and very expensive. Go for Cavani instead.

Re: Do we need RVP?

No I don't think we do.

Personally I think Tevez will stay and the fact that we did so well towards the end of last season playing 4-2-2-2, 5 strikers is completely unnecessary imo.

Me to, sick of arguing the point with what I see as complete numptys.

I don't want him and don't regard myself as a numpty.

The reasons are very clear.

1. Despite being a great PL striker for one season he is 28 and injury prone.
2. He is also a ****. Just like Rooney who I would also not welcome. Remember the Adebayor incident
3. We already have 4 extremely good strikers who compliment each other well. Luckily two of them Kun and Edin are quality pros who don't cause trouble. Imagine if we had Balo. CT and RVP. Incendiary stuff.
4. If Tevez or Dzeko wanted leave there are younger alternatives to VP. Think Cavani and Falcao.
Your missing the point mate which is why I said sick of arguing with numptys.
It doesn't matter a jot if you don't fancy him or if I do, the point is Mancini does and any argument against is a bad slant on Bob. Bad slant on Bob = numpty.

It's a bit harsh to assume people who disagree are somehow disrespecting Mancini. It's just pointing out the other side of the argument and we all know it matters not a bit what we think or say. Surely your argument could be flipped the other way by saying that Mancini wanted Dzeko but now people are saying he is not good enough, therefore questioning Bobbys judgement, are they numptys?

Even the greatest managers make mistakes. What separates them from the others is that they make fewer mistakes, and in my opinion Roberto Mancini hasn't dropped to many clangers.
