Running thread

Completed the Manchester 10k - 1hr 6mins.

My first 5k was quicker than for a good few years at 30 mins. Slowed down the last 3k. Up to that point I was looking on course for an hour.

Enjoyed it and many people spectating shouted my name out.

Not on tik tok - but my daughters are. Been shown the footage and am included in the great run compilation of finishers towards the finishing line !
Fantastic mate well done

Ran the Chester Half on Sunday. First race I've ran without any other goal than just to enjoy it and that was quite nice to be honest. Conditions were okay, started to feel the heat in the last 5 miles.

Mentioned here last week that a few niggles meant I hadn't really trained for the distance. Mid-run I decided to set the goal of trying to stay in front of the 1:40 pacers, they ran past me on the last hill before I ran past them in the final straight. Finished 8 seconds away from a sub 1:40 as they set off after me, bit annoying! Just 2mins from my PB, so happy with everything overall.

Overall a good day, excellently organised again, active leisure do a great job with the Chester events.

Next event is a 5k on the 3rd June.
Well done mate

I had a good run early morning yesterday, walked along the river to my usual spot
Where I completed 12 circuits of a little patch of sloping green ..which is my normal way of training for footy Thursday nights..gentle jogs, mid paced running ,careful descent down a slope . relaxed running across the bottom..before sprinting like mad up the slight hill...(hoping my hamstrings hold out.)..and Repeat..

I hadn't done much running lately,as our outdoor football matches have been cancelled due to lack of available players. .

This is always a big problem for me..how does a late 50s,over the hill midfield player motivate himself to train and keep fit, when the whole purpose of the training.....doesn't take place.,?

Anyway, after the Palace debacle.. , I decided I wasn't going to continue the lazy slump approach of the last two weeks or so and..... like all True Blues, after defeat, I bounced back full on!!

. Id lifted a few weights the day before so was feeling ready to get back on the Fitness trail, and really enjoyed my own personal mix of Walking /stretching,/Running ... And nature watching in the warm early morning Sun.
I felt good.

Spotted a 'little' White Egret hunting in the side shallows, the bird was upset by my presence and eventually took to the air, drifting down stream with a really pissed of raucous cry of" eff off you weirdo" , disturbing my early morning feed!! I've seen Grey Herons do this before,.fly off when I've interrupted their hunting concentration with a resounding, harsh ,"fuck off ". sounding scream.

Who can blame nature for being upset with us humans invading their privacy?

I digress
This week,,as ever ,will be a nervous wait to see if City can smash Bournemouth on Tuesday..and then...more anxiety hoping Thursday night footy goes ahead. I can't wait
The exercise yesterday morning really helped shake off a lethargic lazy few days .....I'm back in the groove now.
Just got to avoid fast food utd fans and poor weather. Feeling sharper than I have done for two weeks.
Long may the feeling continue.
See a little egret out our window regularly but gone as soon as get too close as you say. Got about 7 herons about half mile on up the river. Sometimes see them gathered on rooftops for a woman who feeds them fish in evenings

My 15 year old son does a few 5k runs a week for boxing.

For the runners in this thread would 22 mins be a good time?

I read a lot about ParkRun in here - it's great to see so many people taking part in a healthy & wholesome activity like that.

Strangely, I've never taken part in a ParkRun (apart from the Junior ParkRun a couple of times with the kids).

My 13-year-old daughter has signed up for the Junior Great North Run (2.5 miles) in September to raise money for her poorly sister. Can 13-year-olds take part in ParkRun? It could be good training for her.

I'm still churning out the odd video on my YouTube channel as a way of a) motivating myself and b) hopefully sharing useful info and tips with others. Here's one that I've just made on the subject of why we should mostly run slowly.

I'm always grateful for any likes/subscriptions so that the channel can grow and hopefully reach a few more people.

Thanks Stu. I'm one of your subscribers, and I've really enjoyed your videos. Top work. Good advice about running slowly. I've been doing this for quite a while now - probably since I turned 63.

Edited. Yeah, loads of 13 year olds do Parkrun. It would be ideal for your daughter to train at. There's a rule about young kids running with their parents, but I think that is younger than aged 13 though.

Awesome. Thanks mate. I'll aim to take her along. Yeah, I looked it up and 5-year-olds can take part in ParkRun (both the Junior ParkRun and the normal).

Thanks so much for subscribing and making such nice comments about the videos. You've genuinely made my day. I'm on the lookout for more topics to cover in future videos so let me know if there's anything that would be useful.
