Running thread

Any blues doing the manc 10k? Me and my son are then staying over for the parade. Hoping for a decent time, last event I did was 13 years ago.

Doing the half marathon on Sunday, first one I’ve ever done. A day of sporting greats seeing myself crawl up Deansgate to finish in the morning and then the 4 in a row Premier League champions come back down Deansgate later on.
 
Are your shoes new or old? I have had Achilles Tendonitis a few times due to wearing new shoes. Reverting to the old ones cured it.
I've had them over a year pal and experienced tendonitis for most of the time I've had them.

Good luck, mate. I've done the HM a few times and am also doing it on Sunday. There's a lot of support round the course which helps a lot with motivation though it thins out a bit on the Ashton Old Road and Bridgewater Way so you need to dig deep a bit on those (particularly the latter as its near the end). The very end is also a bit of a killer as well as its uphill to the finish line on Deansgate. So, pace yourself and you'll have a great time!

Best one was 2019 when City won the Domestic Treble and they put all the trophies on a table adjacent to the course when it went through the Etihad car park and you could stop to have a selfie with them!
 
I've been running 3 x a week for an hour.

I'm feeling niggles in my achilles tendon. I've heard this could be caused by the trainers I'm wearing.

Is it really worth seeing a running specialist shop to let them analyse my run and advise decent running trainers?
Definitely worth getting your running gait analysed and get trainers that are appropriate for that. I did that about 10 years ago and have been using the same model of trainer ever since (I buy a new pair every 500 miles or so) and, touch wood, had no significant problems since then.

Thanks I’m hoping the adrenaline of doing an event kicks in a drags me to the finish line. I’ve been training last few months and got myself to around the 19k mark, finding the next couple of kms will be into the unknown. Judging by how the course is laid out for the first time ever I will be actually happy to see Old Trafford as it’s going back up Chester road to Deansgate. Hope you have a good one Sunday and enjoy the parade if you are about for that.

If you can do 19km then you'll be fine and you're right, the adrenaline helps a lot! Just don't let it get to you too much and set off too fast as you'll burn out later. You should know what pace works for you by now so have a plan and stick to it. You can always go for the sprint finish at the end if you still have a bit in the tank!

I'll be heading home after the race for a quick shower then back out to cheer on the champions (hopefully with two trophies...)

Completed Parkrun #92 at Sale Water Park, in 30:35. I'm seeing some improvements after going back on iron supplements. After testing, my irons are reported as being normal, but I have high cholesterol instead.

No Parkrun for me this week as I was on the train to Euston at 09:00 yesterday.
However, I compensated by doing an additional training run meaning I ran on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, as well as swimming on Tuesday and Thursday.
Back to 2 training runs, 2 swims and a Parkrun next week.
