Russian invasion of Ukraine

Yes, that was one of the reasons I originally thought of but surely there is nothing more to prove.

Do we really want these heroes to continue risking their lives on a daily basis just to hold a symbolic place?
If Ukraine is prepared to fight for every inch of a piece of land that has no strategic value, what psychological affect is this having on the invaders!

The first lot of 150,000 troops that went into Ukraine in February didn’t have any idea why they were there. The extra 300,000 they have grabbed from partial mobilisation certainly don’t want to be there as they will be freezing to death digging trenches in the Donbas being rained on by HIMARS.

And if they don't continue to fight for a symbolic place and every inch of Ukrainian sovereign territory, Putin succeeds in his ultimate goal .

Strategically it could be more that it's worth defending simply because the cost in Russian lives and material attacking is so large. Part of the overall strategy to wear down Russian ability to fight?
