There is not a hope in hell Otamendi deliberately handled that ball, He's standing like a defender would, The player strikes the ball and Nico goes to put his arm behind his back. NO PEN

Second penalty was a shambles, Ferny did have his hands on the player, I can see why I would of given it but refs arent consistent in giving those decisions...But either way it shouldn't of stood. Two players going to attack the ball (BOTH IN OFFSIDE POSITIONS). NO PEN.

F*ck VAR, F*ck UEFA.

I'd fancy us to beat any team in Europe on our day, But not a hope will we win the is complete and utter farce of a competition with these officials.

No requirement no but it helps stop penalties. We’ll see one or two like this every weekend on matchnof the day. Not sure why City fans are acting like this is the first handball ever given where the player didn’t try and catch the fucking ball.

We’re not, we just want the rules applied as stated by UEFA. If the on-field ref gives it, then even though I still don’t think it is a pen, I have no complaints that VAR doesn’t overturn the decision. What I can’t get on board with, is the on-field ref not giving it and VAR overturning it. They can’t change the rules, mid fucking game.

It's not just the ref who didn't see a reply.
Sat here waiting to see any highlights and fuck all on tv so far.
Shitest thing about Champs league is for years it was on ITV and your choice was Rags, Rags or ocassionslly Arsenal.
When we qualify it gets fucked off to Sky which was bad enough although goals would be shown on SSN.
Now it's on BT no fucker see'some it, unless you have BT, which I don't

1) It was ball to arm.
2) VAR should only be used when there is a clear and obvious mistake.
3) The screen was fcuked, thus preventing the ref from reviewing his decision.
4) The resulting yellow contributed unjustly towards a red.

Any poster defending that is being contrary for the sake of it.

Don't think VAR and the decisions for the penalties were to blame for our predicament at 2-1. The implementation of VAR was a fucking shambles and needs improving drastically, however I see why both were given, though I see the controversy of the first.

I wish more posts on here were focused on the team's performance and fight back, or at least constructive criticism of those who under performed, rather than UEFA and the referee. We've been fucked over regularly by UEFA but I don't think tonight was one of them.

That being said, I think sane deserves a start on Sunday, as does zinchenko. David and Kevin aren't in good form (Silva was better today), I'd have gundoqn and Bernardo in midfield on Sunday with sane, sterling, and aguero up front based on the performances tonight.

I’ve no idea what language was being used in the stream that I watched but it was less irritating than most of the English commentaries that I’ve suffered. Anyway ... how dreadful was the ref? Did any decision go our way? Neverthelesss, I was super impressed with how everyone gave 100% until the very end although what was Otamendi thinking about? Leroy was surely making a point with his brilliant free kick and Raheem fully deserved his goal. At the end of the day a great result given that we were losing for most of the match.

Please accept that both were penalties ... as per Pep ``s comments !!!

But handball is entirely down to interpretation. There’s also making yourself bigger and hand being in an unnatural position.

Otamendi has made himself bigger and blocked the call with his hand, whether or not he was then moving his hand out of the way.

OK, you’ve had your fun. Admit your fingers were crossed.

MODS: Here’s hoping all the flappers who had us dead to rights losers in the Match day thread get a ban for the next Schalke Match Day thread! Some shocking comments from so-called fans on that thread!

I called 2-4 at 2-1 down, and almost...

When did so many “fans” turn into internet rags?
