They've always said that, but a couple of yrs ago I did a screenshot of mine and tried it out of curiosity and it worked.That's correct, They've stated that this season screenshots will not gain you access into the ground this season as the barcode will continuously update itself.
I'm on Andorid, I've barcodes for tickets. Yours should also have a barcode and not a QR Code.

When I read that email I didn’t understand what NFC meant. I had to Google it to find out.Ive just had an email from City about the first home game of the season versus Ipswich Town.
The only mention of NFC capability on a mobile phone is with regard to the 10% discount that is available to season card holders at various outlets in the stadium ( drinks,food and souvenirs etc).
So if you don't have NFC on your smart phone,then you will not be able to claim your 10% discount.
But there is NO mention at all that you need to have NFC to be able to enter the stadium, I am 99% sure that you will still be able to enter the stadium via the QR code that will be read by inserting your phone into the slots at each turnstile all around The Etihad .

So when the mobile tickets were introduced about 3 seasons ago, I was exactly the same as you Sheila, I didn't have a clue what NFC means in terms of smart phones.
The first person I spoke to on the phone told me to ‘just buy a new iPhone’
