Seat Counters - 2022/23

We never used to sell out league cup games even when the away team brought 5k. FA Cup games seemed to depend on the day and KO time. Now the day & time don’t matter.
True, we're definitely attracting more and more fans. It's a good effort for our fanbase. I do think the opposition in our cup games has helped this season though.

Remember pre covid when we had an empty stand v Fulham in the cup. Now we're selling out league Cup round 3 games. We've definitely attracted new fans over the past couple years
That Fulham game (attendance 39,223) was an outlier compared to other weekend FA Cup games over the previous 6 or 7 years. In the previous round we got 52,433 against Port Vale and 12 months before that Fulham match we played Rotherham on a Sunday afternoon and the attendance was 52,708

Yes, that Fulham game was a weird one. If I remember correctly, they brought fewer than 1k fans.

For 95% of football clubs in England, 38k home fans in a cup game (against arguably the most boring opposition in the football league) would be unbelievable, yet we beat ourselves up about it!

We don't have as large a fanbase as Liverpool or United. There's no shame in that.

It wasn't odd, we got less the next home game in the LC.

The LC game was the semi-final second leg against United - attendance was 51,000. You might be getting mixed up with the Burton Albion game the season before?

The Fulham game was a definite outlier in terms of weekend FA Cup games going all the way back to the 2012/13 season. Even with so few away fans, the attendance was on the low side

I believe that league cup game was mid-week though. If you look at our attendance at the cup games on weekends, they're usually larger than that Fulham game by at least 5k fans.

The away following has a lot to do with that though.

Thought you meant Fulham in the league cup:

4th Round - 1 November 2018 Fulham Attendance: 35,271

Semi-finals - 1st Leg 9 January 2019 Burton Albion Attendance: 32,089

The Fulham LC game was rammed for the tram too, 40 mins after full time still queues at the top, so a lot of casual fans who wouldn't want to see the same team the following season.
