If there are no marks on the body of physical violence then the Police always seem to say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death even before the post mortem, the latest victim has not been identified yet they have already accepted he must have fell in.
Most, probably have just stumbled or committed suicide in the canal, but a couple do seem a suspicious. I've forgotten his name but that lad that phoned his mother distressed in the early hours of the morning was very strange.

You would expect signs of injury though from a fall so maybe any injuries were consistent with that. So say someone fell, hit their head and knocked themselves out you would accept that. So maybe head trauma would be common in this type of incident. So any signs of head trauma could be consistent with a fall.

Most people don't land on their head in a fall.

Well these people are supposedly so drunk that when they hit water they drown so you might expect some sort of injury that meant they couldn't swim. And anyway when they are in the water they could strike something, especially in a flowing river.

But in a free fall, the kinetic energy is converted to mechanical energy, which then dissipates proportionately throughout the tissues and bones of the body. A separate head trauma, a knockout blow with a hammer or cosh, would be separately evident and detected by skilled investigators.

I agree. It would have to be more subtle than that. But come on, if you fell in a canal when drunk do you think you would die?

Which gives us two distinct possibilities.

1. These 13 people all died accidentally by falling into water whilst inebriated

2. A potential murderer killed or incapacitated them by other means, some time prior to introducing them to the water.

And the winner of the competition is you mate. No other reason at all. Drink and water is not a good combination.

Does your police contract stipulate that you have to tow the party line in all cover ups?

Now I am not sure if you are being serious however are you aware that when a body is found/recovered anywhere be it in a canal,a field etc where the cause of death is unknown a Post Mortem is carried out. Now if all these people had been murdered there would have been forensic and pathalogical evidence. Now please tell me you do not actually believe there is a serial killer on the loose in Manchester who dumping bodies in the canals...
I can tell you of 3 incidents where people have gone missing over the past 2 yrs where they have been drunk, disorientated, tried to take a short cut home and have been pulled dead from the canal.
It's booze I am afraid mate. Loads of drunks end up in the locks at the weekend but survive. As I said..Booze and water are a terrible combination!

there is something in it with the canals around Manchester like most on here its a puzzle why you should lose your life in that way if you are not on drugs or drunk

I live around both ashton and Rochdale canals in ancoats and they have made a new canal boat marina in new Islington and its a very nice place and on the weekends its packed with people even young kids swimming in the canal its like a day out for people taking picnics drinks BBQ and on the other weekend they was well over 200 people there just having a good time

so if people are using the canals more and more then maybe that's why its happing there is a big rise in modern day living and them new tower blocks with the posh names like islington wharf in and around east Manchester there is a new young community moving in who like the outdoors and canals so it maybe that's something to look at

but its a puzzle

People swim in the canal? No way would you swim in that water. It's still stagnant water isn't it with all duck shit and shopping trolleys and whatever else.

in kid you not they swim in that part of the canal
they even have a sand and pebbles sort of beach and you can walk in and kids
swim in that
