That's not quite true. Beyond the religious nutters at the top, Iran is not a bad place at all for but 90% of Jews have left in the last 40 years (the active community is less than 10,000 down from over 100,000) so it's hardly a sign that they've been treated well. They're certainly not oppressed and have religious freedom, plus a guaranteed seat in the Majlis, but it's a delicate balance and they've got to be seen to be "anti-Zionist".Iranian Jews are treated extremely well, so not quite as analogous as you suggest. There's much worse regimes than Iran in the Middle East.
You should have just called him Clarkie.
Leading Iranian Jews dispute the 10,000 figure, placing it nearer to 30,000, but there has been a decline. A significant number left in the early days after the revolution, and most that have followed have done so in no small part due to the financial inducements to relocate to Israel. That's not quite true. That's primarily for two reasons. Firstly, the Jewish presence in Iraq goes back nearly 3,000 years and the community is well integrated into Iranian society and pretty well accepted. Secondly, after executing the leader of the Jewish community soon after the revolution, Khomeini was persuaded by the Jewish community to issue a fatwa protecting the Jews of Iran. The unspoken payoff is that they keep their heads down and present a positive a positive image of their life there.

Jews in Iran are treated in a way which would be considered intolerable in a free country - they have to watch what they say and do or face the consequences from a horrific, nasty regime.
I'm saddened when people try hard to find positives in a bad situation because it suits their political outlook. It is appeasement, and often borders on racism for expecting lower standards of behaviour from governments in non-western, non-white countries.
Yep61 dead, over 200 injured in explosions in Kabul. No one gives a fuck. Life is cheap.
