Should this whiny woman I know be allowed to go on holiday?

Re: Should people on benefits be allowed abroad?

Unemployed people should be as entitled to do with their money (and once they have received it, it is theirs) as anyone else.

To suggest otherwise is reminiscent of the way workhouses used to operate, which doubtless some on here would like to see return.

You (and a few others) have made the point exactly. Nothing is straight forward and we could all learn from walking a few steps in other peoples shoes.

It is hard to judge from forum replies whether people are serious or not, but it does seem that there are some short sighted tossers on here.

In all honesty i have seen both sides of the track and i have seen the good and the bad on both.
Growing up on council estate most people holding down 1 or 2 jobs helping each other out with child care so not having to pay others for it, friends parents looking down there nose at me and my Mum because we were "poor". 2 people across the road from us who were not disabled in anyway claiming disability. So disabled was one he managed to do jobs that many healthy people would struggle with.
Then now living a better life i dont look down on people who try and make a go, who cant get a job, who are truly disabled in any capacity. All these people just like me and Mum were should be given state help to get by. I have always said its never about these people i was one and im not going to be a hypocrite about it. Its the 16yr old girls in the street saying "fack that Sharron i aint gettin a job. Me and Paul iz gonna have another kid so we can get some more money." The career fucking layabouts that think the world owes them something despite never giving anything towards it in there entire lives. The lazy false disabled claimants who get £40,000 a year and spend 4 days a week playing golf, they get found out and fined £2.57 a week.

And these made up figures come from where ?? £800 per week ??

Oh good lord man i just put a number in i doubt all fraudsters play fucking golf 4 days a week either. Fucking hell sue me.
If you really wanna stick up for the people who lie about being disabled and ruin it for everyone else then i dont know why but its your choice.
Or you could read it again and not just get wound up about 1 point

-- Wed Mar 14, 2012 5:41 pm --

Oh and you cut half of it out and you cant quote properly

Re: Should people on benefits be allowed abroad?

Some people must read the Daily Mail and truly believe that everything in it is gospel. People are being made redundant left, right and centre, all of whom I imagine have houses, bills and maybe children to pay for. What are you supposed to do if there is no job to waltz straight in to? That's why we have a welfare state, we all contribute to support people who find themselves in a situation where they can't look after themselves.

People who have broken their backs working for this country now find themselves out of work through no fault of their own, and now they are being branded lazy and bone idle? Take a look at the real world, it's unfair and cruel. One of the few things we can be proud of is the knowledge that part of our taxes is going to the needy.

Too many small minded people look over the road at their scrounging neighbour who signs on while going to the pub every day and putting a bet on, without seeing the guy on the street behind yours who feels worthless because he pounds the streets every day looking for work but gets turned away.

Well it is for them i have to work for my money though

BTW if she is on the sick i dont see why she cant have a holiday

Why ?? If you are in full time employment and go off on long term sick, you still acrue your holiday entitlement.

I didnt mean any of that mate that was an off the cuff remark. I made my sensible post a few pages back

Cheers mate and honestly I can understand both sides of the arguement.
I finished work in 2002,at the ripe old age of 51,due to degeneration of the spine.
Wont bore you all with the pain etc,but my wife earned over the threshold, whereby we couldn`t claim much and being a paying mortgagee,we had little sympathy at first from our Nationwide lender.Couldn`t claim anything like Tax Credits,House Tax etc,but we soldiered on.
Cut a long story short,we finally managed to pay our mortgage off, some 3 years ago and were fortunate to do the things we enjoyed and still are,but thats more good luck than anything else.
Last year I receieved a nice pension, which I cashed in,payed all our debts off and havn`t looked back since.
However,I still receive Disablilty Living Allowance and Sick Pay,which does help towards our ability of living fairly comfortable.
Six years ago,I got so fed up I said to the missus, fuck it, (well not exactly to her) we aint had a decent holiday in god knows how many years and decided to go to Menorca.
Regret it ?? No way.It was not just a break for me,but the wife and our lad,who pulled their tripe out on a daily basis helping me overcome my long term illness.
Having said that,I do agree that the system needs some dramatic overalling,in how dependants are paid and for what use.

-- Wed Mar 14, 2012 5:53 pm --

Well spotted and apologies to BB.

i think this underlines the problem.
it is a free country for the lazy bastards who don't pay in but reap the rewards, free house, free money etc. (i realise your "free" is meant socially, and not economically, but ill make my point anyway)
for everyone else, it is a costly country, which seems to support the lazy and inferm, and financially punish the working man.
taxes are at an all time high, and by sheer coincidence*, so is un-employment and people seeking benefits. (*Sarcasm noted)
and don't go giving me that old shite about there being no jobs. there are jobs out there, but those who claim there aren't are just to bone idle to do them.
nobody wants to empty bins/sweep streets/work at macdonalds etc. They may not be the nicest 9-5, cushy number crunching jobs these people all want, but there are definitley jobs available. it seems some people are to "proud" to get their hands dirty, but not too proud to take handouts.
lazy is a term i would prefer.

I would love to spend valuable time with a proper reply to you but I will just say that you come over like a complete and utter arrogant tosser.

Maybe. But i can sound arrogant with a clear concience that i have worked for everything i have, and not had it given to me. I have paid my dues to this government, whereas some are just too happy to take. If thats makes you upset, so be it, its soft soaping the lazy bastards that got it this way in the first place.

Have you ever considered what employers want in an employee? Do you REALLY think that McDonalds want, for example, a software engineer to take a job just to clear off when a better job comes along?

Are you really stupid enough to think that ANY person can succeed in ANY job?

You argument is shortsighted and ill thought out.

I have argued the same point on here many times without resorting to abuse, unfortunately this thread has annoyed me so much a few expletives have slipped out.

I sometimes wonder if people actually believe the shit they post and do they ever consider how it makes others see them?

At the end of the day,its the system that is to blame. If people see benefits as a way of modern day living, then any government needs to act.
Perhaps its also a way that generations of families have lived in the past and their kids see it as a way of life ?
