Spurs (H) - Post-Match Thread

Yess weve let scousers back in it,but city wont just loose there heads no fuckin way,im a bit wery of who we get in quaters of cl as the liverpool game is slap bang in the middle, but thats the same for them,it actually could be them which will just be an awfull week if goes pairshaped, but i have faith there will be a reaction at everton next week, also liverpool have to win there game in hand which isnt a given, theyve got a few tough games before us arsenal a west ham h man utd h it wont be plain sailin for them, yesterday was a shocker no doubt about it,but we move on and go again ,wud much rather be in our position than liverpools all day.

Think 3 at the back with stones dias Laporte was an option and play Cancelo and Walker as wingbacks then you have to drop one of Kdb gundogan or foden

Mentally we're very fragile? No we are not. We were jaded after midweek and not one player had a good game. When that happens you're vulnerable.
But if you don't plan to defend against a team that has no ambition other than counter-attacking you will get done every time by strikers who can't believe the chances they are gifted.

Missed the game yesterday due to feeling poorly…saw the result. Decided to have some soup and go back to sleep, hoping I’d wake up and it was a dream.

I’m up now, and it’s not a dream. Haven’t been able to watch the game yet. Did the lads put up a fight? Was it some ref bs? Unlucky on the day? Just a bad day at the office?

Regardless of the win, I’m sure Pep and the lads will want to rectify it in the next match. Like someone else said, last time a loss happened, the team went on a 12 game win streak.
The early goal you've seen Spurs score against us a billion times spooked us, it took us longer than it does to find our rhythm, just as we'd clawed our way back into the game Spurs score the same goal against us. Repeat again. Our defending looked as poor as it has with Pep since Dias joined, and their back five swallowed the space which we never quite figured out how to exploit. I wouldn't watch it, tbh, I won't be watching the highlights.

Sounds like the midfield/defence weren’t on their game. How did Rodri play? Thanks for the brief.

As Pep has always said, losing in football is natural, it's what you do after defeat that is important.
It is natural, but it will be more apparent if your defence presenst one gift, let alone three. Defending is an integral part of the game. If it weren't why buy the likes of Walker, Stones, Diaz, Cancelo, and Laporte? But if you want to turn your defenders into quasi-attackers then you could be in trouble. Spurs had no real pace up front, and Walker was always odds on to win a sprint, but the quality of pass and vision that Spurs produced approaching our area was always gonna bring a bad day at The Etihad.

I think some of us are being a bit knee jerk after yesterday. We need to go on another winning run, which we are very cable of. Sometimes you get beat that is the way it goes.

it was a bad result but typical of Harry Kane to show up against us. Spurs at times are are bogey team. This has been the case. We will bounce back from this. The so called title race is back on again. Lets see how the next 5 games go for the both us and Liverpool there will be more twists in the next 5 games hopefully in our favour. We have Liverpool at home win that we will win the league.
Time now to settle on our team from now on in the league. Pick the best 11 and go with them. We just need to take our chances. Sterling and Mahrez need to start together. Some players need to step up. I hope we get the senior players around everyone and get us going again. We need the leaders in the team showing there worth and getting us back on track again.

From what another poster alluded to, seem the lads were poor defensively yesterday. Hopefully, it’s only a blip

Rodri hasn’t been on it last few games which is worrying. When he turns up we bulldoze teams, Kane going deep caused us problems and allowed him to pop of passes to Son.

Rodri seemed to fade towards the back end of last season, hope this isn’t the same story as there isn’t anyone else who can come in and pick up the slack at the level he does it.

Disappointed to see the team was quite helpless and didn't have proper solutions. Also worrying - looking ahead to big knockout CL matches - that there was no whatsoever fire in the team to knock them out after the penalty when spurs were waiting for that to happen.
Sorry to say, but the support should have been relentless in those minutes, lads clearly needed ultimate support yesterday.

Well, shite day accepted. I hope we get them in the FA cup away to have a next chance asap. We said we owe them before, it's been doubled again...

The title race? We simply have to fight for the glory, and we will.
If dippers win every single match including at ours so be it.

Kane been anonymous for most of the season because a club tapped him up and then didn’t follow through with a proper concrete offer.
It’s also disrespectful to say we just sat in and played long balls. Our goals were all fantastic football that carved you open. Your two goals were a lucky penalty you only got because our sliding player isn’t an amputee, and one Lloris chucked in for you.
The entitlement is amazing. You deserved nothing. Possession is always going to happen when you have some of the best passing talent in Europe
Many of us thought that this might be a game where we'd come a cropper, but I think you'll agree that the result turned the form book on it's head. To say 'the entitlement is amazing' is interesting. When you'd lost 3 in a row and looked shit, and we're leaving allcomers trailing in our wake, what do you expect? Defeatism?
Shit happens and we were shit by our standards. I hope you can maintain your's and avoid the usual flakiness we've seen in the last month - especially if it means that you get 4th spot, if it's between you and the scum.
Enjoy your weekend!

We did plan, Gundogan said they talked about this threat and worked on it. Unfortunately on their day Son and Kane are world class. Also some of our stand out players normally collectively had a mare. You can plan all you like but that doesn't mean you can always stop the opposition. If it did every team that played us would stop us as I'm sure they plan on how to nullify us

Bad day at the office, it happens. First meaningful loss since October shows just how react to losses.

Seems a replacement for Dinho at DM is going to be salient. You’re right about him fading in the latter half of last season. Thing is, the club have to find someone that can do more than a job but is okay not starting many games. Very hard to find those types of players.

A lucky penalty lol he tried to catch it lol.

Mate if you are happy to pay to watch spurs play with 10 or 8 defenders that's up to you. Funny thing you lot hated Mourinho doing that !.

I dont think the vast majority of City fans feel entitled, I dont. Do I want to watch a good game of football ? Yes.
If it had been an end to end game and spurs won 2-3 so be it.
But that wasnt a good game for the neutrals, for City or the way spurs use to play attacking football. Instead spurs played like a team fighting relegation mind you even QPR werent as narrow and compact as you lot ! And they were fighting relegation.

Honestly pal some lower division teams in the cups have given us a better go. Arent you abit worried that spurs only turn up against us ?. My lad said I bet my years salary that spurs loses the next 3 matches. I wouldnt disagree with him.

And it reminded me that, no matter how many of the plaudits Kane gets for his one real showing of the season yesterday, I'd much rather take Son off them than Kane. Kane was very good, but Son always is.

The plan would involve not just the paper, board or iPad it's on, but some semblance of a plan that had a measure of practical deliverance. We were caught four times with our shorts by our ankles, and got stuffed on three of 'em! That's not much of a plan - I think Baldrick was doing the half time team talk! Being caught once in such circumstances yer can say hey ho, eez football, but three fuckin' times, and lastly on the last fuckin' minute is just crass and ramshackle.
