Squeeze

I can’t do concerts nowadays as my missus has chronic kidney disease and the covid, that it seems most folk don’t give a shit about, would kill her.
However, I have seen Squeeze half a dozen times down the years and can vouch that they’re a truly excellent band, especially live.

Sorry to hear about your missus, life as we get older is awful, but these days thankfully we have youtube. you can find loads of clips of various bands beyond and above the usual. As i get older I prefer the sets such as this

Bump.
Just a quick heads up to any Squeeze fans on Bluemoon.
( I know there are quite a few of us on this forum).
It's their 50th Anniversary Tour next year.
They are playing at the 02 APOLLO on Saturday 12th October 2024.
Tickets go on sale this Friday 1st December at 10.00am.
I'll be buying a couple of tickets for me and the wife.
We've been to 4 or 5 Squeeze concerts in the 90s and 2000s and they are a great band to see live.
If you don't attend then all I can say is that
"You're really Up The Junction" !!!

I forgot to include in my original post that the support act is Badly Drawn Boy aka Damon Gough ,who we all know is a big City fan .
"Ipso Facto" !!!

Think it’s great that they are collecting food / cash for the Trussell Trust from folk attending their concerts - good to see they recognise that there are folk in need of help and are willing to support in this way.

Hopefully she appreciates you buying the tickets enough to give you a Little Slap and Tickle.

I would have loved to have seen them this up close, fantastic stuff.

Hope everything gets a bit better for you both mate.

Great lyrics that tell a story in a short song.

I never thought it would happen
With me and the girl from Clapham
Out on a windy common
That night I ain’t forgotten
When she dealt out the rations
With some or other passions
I said you are a lady
"Perhaps" she said "I may be".
We moved into a basement
With thoughts of our engagement
We stayed in by the telly
Although the room was smelly
We spent our time just kissing
The railway arms we’re missing
But love had got us hooked up
And all our time it took up.

I got a job with Stanley
He said I’d come in handy
And started me on monday
So I had a bath on sunday
I worked eleven hours
And bought the girl some flowers
She said she’d seen a doctor
And nothing now could stop her.

I worked all through the winter
The weather brass and bitter
I put away a tenner
Each week to make her better
And when the time was ready
We had to sell the telly
Late evenings by the fire
With little kicks inside her

This morning at 4:50
I took her rather nifty
Down to an incubator
Where thirty minutes later
She gave birth to a daughter
Within a year a walker
She looked just like her mother
If there could be another

And now she’s two years older
Her mother’s with a soldier
She left me when my drinking
Became a proper stinging
The devil came and took me
From bar to street to bookie
No more nights by the telly
No more nights nappies smelling

Alone here in the kitchen
I feel there’s something missing
I’d beg for some forgiveness
But begging’s not my business
And she won’t write a letter
Although I always tell her
And so it’s my assumption
I’m really up the junction
