There is no doubt Barry is a top player, he is an England International. However he isn't the type of player I would have been looking for. If he is coming as a central midfielder I wouldn't put him in before either Kompany, De Jong or Ireland. A left midfielder? Not unless Hughes changes the whole set up of the team and if so I'd prefer Petrov. Left back? I don't think Barry would go for that.

You are joking? He is 5 times better than De Jong or Kompany will ever be in midfield. He will be the link up man for the defensive midfielder to pass to so Barry can then give the ball to the forward players. Kompany and De Jong, although good players cannot pass for toffee. The whole balance and ability of the team will go up with Barry in there. I guess you'll have to see to believe me.

I don't agree. With the way our team is set up at the mo both De Jong and Kompany are better suited. Kompany is top quality. If he hadn't have been injured in recent seasons he would have been at a CL club instead of us. To say Barry is 5 times better is complete rubbish IMO. I'd rather we got a top centre half than move Kompany back there as well.

What can I say about Barry? He’s been one of the shining lights at Villa over the last ten years. He’s technically excellent and is versatile, though he is best in the centre of midfield. MON has certainly improved him as a player, and for a fee of £12 million I would say you have a bargain. Possibly the best transfer you will make this summer. He is slow, like a lumbering battleship at times, but he makes up for this often with his intelligence. Feels that at some point he and MON did fall out and in the end this is one of the main reasons he will move on, and undoubtly its exciting times ahead at MCFC. Probably in the end all parties will come out of this deal well; you will gain a good player, we will make some money and keep him out of the hands of that team somewhere in a urban settlement beginning with L. Will we be weakened by it? Yes no doubt about it, though its a much held feeling that losing Barry might free the team to play in a different way. MON likes to play on the counterattack and with pace, and many of those times when you want a box-to-box midfielder bursting through to get on the end of Youngs crosses, Barry is nowhere in sight...

Would be interesting to see if any other players are involved in this deal. Is Sturridge as good as the hype suggests?

Yes, don't let the clueless brigade on here tell you otherwise.

Hello, how do you feel about the rumoured £12,000,000? I'd say that's a steal for us..

12m for me I am abit disappointed with I thought for us to accept it so quickly would be more or have some players involved. Not sure who we will be able to replace him with at 12m but I have faith in Mon's ability.

In regards to Villa fans all I can suggest is understand their point of view your captain has said he would only leave to a club that has CL experience and unfortuantely in your case you don't have Europe at all. I think the real anger is at Barry not City, tehy are allowe dto bid for whoever, your just ona different planet with your finacial muscle at the moment!

I would be suprised to be honest, but don't you ahve De jong and Ireland to paly there?

Good yes, and definatly thinks of himself as great. Don't think we can offer him to you with him being out of contract though

Re: SSN Breaking News — Gareth Barry [merged]

Those talking about de Jong and Kompany are missing the point.

they are both good strong holding midfielders and tacklers. But what we miss is a passer to link defence with attack. That's what Johnson did for us, and Barry would bring us. I do not foresee we would necessarily drop either De Jong or Kompany to accomodate, either.

Re: SSN Breaking News — Gareth Barry [merged]

we cant offer him no but if he wants the move we could waive the tribunal fee

He is class and is what villa need imo. Both partys get what they want. Cheers.

De Jong is for the defensive position, Ireland plays a more attacking role, we are desperate for someone to link up the two. Johnson would be perfect but he's been out for so long
