As I understand it, Liverpool have an enormous squad (ie 50+ players), if you include the young lads that their academy churns out. It's just that Benitez doesnt ever let them see the footballing light of day. Now he might have to.

3) in the event of the above, 5 regular foreign squad members will need to be shipped out

He signed on loan initially at 17 I think. If they accept him as a Liverpool player at that time he will count. If however they deem it to be when he signed fully with them (when he was 18 1/2), then it's too late.

Under the rules, clubs will have to name a squad of 25 players over 21 before the season begins. Eight of those players must be "home-grown", in that they must have been developed for at least three years by an English or Welsh club before their 21st birthday.
