Stadium Expansion

I got told by somebody who works on the development that their boss had a meeting and the ground can be expanded to 60,000 + 80,000 (3 tiers and 4 tiers) apparently they don't want to do two different expansions, they want to just do one I.e 80,000

They aren't expecting to sell out LC games, look at Milan and barca, 30/40,000 empty seats in the lesser games.

We need to think about the week in week out league games.

Although I have to say I think 60,000 would be our limit atm.

Was the 'survey/consultation' yesterday merely a feeler for opinions or was anything 'concrete' suggested? Going back a bit, there were rumours of the ADUG would eventually want to eclipse Old Trafford in terms of capacity (and even rebuild elsewhere) so just wondering if that 60,000 quoted was a vague suggestion?
These 'breath taking' leaks also suggest (if true) we'll expect more than just increased capacity and an all new singing/dancing skin/shell might be on the cards. You only have to watch the Abu Dhabi grand prix to realise these folks do 'wow' on another scale.

Wished I'd gone along - I recieved the email, but ignored it thinking it was one of those trying to flog me 10% off slippers from the store.

The club also won't want sections of the stadium missing roofing, it completely fucks up rain protection and people won't turn up.

I left the roof off because.... I think its going to be VERY hard to re-engineer the ends without completely replacing the roof. There is also the rain water drainage to consider, it currently all runs down two giant tubes one each behind the North and South stands.

As someone said, it is possible to squeeze a roof over that end stand but whether the geometries will actually work where it joins back to the original I have no idea

The other option that works (to protect the 1st/2nd tier in the corners from the rain) is to not chop the roof ends back as far as the Commonwealth Games state - but just enough so that the new third tier can fit in - I'll recut the Google Model today to see how that looks

If the price of tickets reduces people will go.

Many fans have got out of the habit of going to games.

People rightly or wrongly think football is expensive.

Only reason why i couldnt re-new season ticket this year, with work falling and having mine and 2 kids tickets we couldn't afford it. Even on finance still couldn't make the payments. Until work picks up and i make extra on overtime, i simply cant afford it.

For me the ticket prices aren't too bad for the quality of football we're watching but the issue comes for me when i want to take my kids/friends it does become an expensive day. Moneywise my finances means me and my kids will not be joining cup schemes next season just keeping our season tickets.

Any mention of how this construction will take place ie one stand at a time, no open tickets on sale, relocation of fans during construction, etc.

Every time the expansion issue comes up I cannot understand why we dont just build another stadium that we would actually own. It would take maybe 3-4 years to build and we would have a great stadium during the construction. Expansion just means lots of money spent on something that the council still own and some very uncomfortable years for fans while its being done.

Is it true we are going to have a whole 2nd tier of corporate or just another shit rumour?

I cant imagine it because for 95% of games the corporate sections are empty it looked proper shit yesterday

City need to think about dropping their prices if they want to fill a 60k stadium every game.

Double expensive pursuit these days is the footy. Esp for those of us with kids and mortgages.

Would be a very good move for us to expand the stadium.

Some posters claim, based on our current attendances/demand for tickets, that we do not need expansion. That is shortsighted. Expand to where you want to be, not where you are.

Is the Directors Box in the CB Stand the Corporate area, or ar they different areas of the ground. The bit I call the Directors Box is never full, and I think that seat numbers in there should be reduced and sold to fans.

if City so wished they could fill a 100k stadium. it's all to do with pricing and having a successful team. You create a great venue, you create a buzz that attracts extra people. Sunderland went from 15k at Roker Pk to 49k at SOL and 20k for reserve games there for a while. didn't last because they couldn't keep a winning team.
