Star Wars VII

Went to see it again with the youngling this afternoon.

Even with my expectations lowered considerably after the first viewing the lack of a coherent, original story is unforgivable.

I'll give episode 8 a go but only because that turd Abrams isn't attached to it.

Anyone know the date it is released on DVD? will be great to buy for the extras.

Think you'll find you are in the minority here.

J.J Abrams is one of the greatest directors of our times.

JJ Abrams puts out consistently good stuff, but never great stuff. I wish Matthew Vaughn had got the job and some creative freedom.

I liked Force Awakens. Plot holes are a tradition in Star Wars. My only character complaints are that Ren was lame as a bad guy and Rey was a bit Mary Sue.
She knew more about the Millennium Falcon in 10 minutes than its actual owner who spent years piloting it. At least she was likeable unlike creepy Anakin. What was the point of Ren raging out every 2 minutes he was on screen? Dude needs anger management counseling. An average jedi could kill this guy by provoking him into an apoplectic fit. Maybe that's his final training. Finn and Han Solo humanized the whole thing.

Having another exhaust pipe on a super sized version of the Death Star was super lame. And it wasn't even defended despite being a weapon that could potentially end the conflict. A whole planet relying on shields with 3 TIE fighters to defend it. Dumb.

Defeating the remnants of the Empire will never be as epic as actually defeating the Emperor and Vader.

I loved the film, and apart from blowing up Starkiller base/death star/death planet being planned and executed as easily as eating a packet of crisps, the story was good enough.

I loved it, the only real problem I had with it was:

Han revealing that Ren was his son before the scene where Ren refers to Vaders mask as "grandfather". I think the "grandfather" scene should have come first as it would have lead viewers to assume that Ren was Luke's son, which would have made the Han reveal that much more of a twist

Stunning visuals, solid performances, beautiful OST. It was a strangly satisfying feeling to walk out of the cinema and feel good about going to see a Star Wars film.

was watchable but it was more like a fan made tribute than a new entry into the series. Understand he's trying to make it similar to the originals but just copying all the noteworthy scenes got boring after the first half hour.
