Steve Ireland

Really?

Is this really a serious thread?!

How can so many people turn on Ireland? Why? I'm really confused as to how you can go from one extreme to another, when our season has improved dramatically!

Before his season last year, people hated him. It seems they still do.

How can you blame him alone for the goal and claim he didn't try?

I'm off downstairs for a bit, this is shocking.

There doesnt seem to be a thread on this so I feel its something in my view needs to be said. Steve I have taken the car out of the garage and am happy to drop you at any club you like because you young man dont deserve to wear a Manchester City shirt again. You came off the bench and was a total fookin disgrace try running after the ball when you fook up. You had a great season last year but clearly a flash in the pan. If you dont want to work for the team then please do us all a favour and fuck off.

bit harsh with the choice of words here, i agre he's been awful, i really don't know what's up with him.

I still say that time he felt ill and came off, he thought his day was up, siunce then he's gone down hill, personally i think that day has scared him a little and he doesn't wanna over do it.

I just don't know what anyone or he can do to get himself back to his old self, all that stuff he did last summer to get him fit and going everyday has just made things worse.

Football is the one sport which doesnt seem to have a problem with athletes doping to gain a rapid increase in fitness.

Its quite fortunate really, cos in other sports where it has been a problem, like athletics or cycling, some of the athletes have suffered real health problems with their heart.

Interesting thread, this one.

I think Stephens Dizzy moment was a similar thing to what happened to Peter Barnes at the award ceremony and i think just like Barnes..Ireland will not return to the player he was earlier.
Wrong all counts

The incidents are not comparable: Stephen was feeling ill; Peter wasn't; Stephen went to hospital;Peter didn't. Stephen's form seems to have suffered and he is not the player he was, whether the two are related nobody knows, or are saying. The awards incident was purely down to nerves and can happen to even the most accomplished public speaker and it didn't not have any affect on Peter's career

Not all counts our kid....you say Barnes was'nt feeling ill, perhaps you need to give that presumption a coat of further thought. They both chucked an unexpected moody and were gently led from the theatre....Barnes tried many times to recreate his earlier unrestricted ad-lib style but never got there....even though he had a decades worth of career in front of him. Irelands done fuck all your honour since his moment....and i'm saying he wont.

Anyone who doesn't blame Ireland for the goal needs their head testing, he started to track Scholes and then decided to catch a sun tan and let Scholes run on, him and him alone is to be blamed for that. He's lazy and not fit to wear the shirt

Reckon you guys would sell him to Spurs? If so, how much do you think you'll be looking to get for him? £8m - £10m?

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Ireland has to close Nani down imo ....instead he just watches play develop then makes a half hearted run into the box......awful marking, and for someone who had just come on there was no excuse.

You get used to it on here mate.

Lots of them haven't a clue and still have the old City "scapegoat" mentality.

Ireland is currently carrying the can. It's always homegrown players. It's the Ricahrds Edgehill award for undeserved abuse.

Daft fans do it as a kind of bonding thing. You can imagine the sweaty pissed stained fuckers in the south stand bogs. "Alright mate. Ireland's fucking wank inne? WHO'S THAT LYING ON THE...."

You get the picture.

Good grief DD ......I can understand the scapegoat mentality on here sometimes, but please please watch the goal again and tell me that SI last year wouldn't have been all over Nani before he puts that cross in.

Ireland deserves everything he is getting at the moment.

It surprises me that you'd be so scathing about our supporters in your bid to defend a player whose lack of effort cost us dearly on Saturday.

It is not unreasonable to expect a greater contribution from a player earning more in a week than many fans would in five years.

City fans do try to see the best in people, if anything we're guilty of overrating our players from time-to-time. But we are quick to pounce upon anyone not trying their best. I hope that this never changes.

I don't doubt he was at fault. And I don't think I could name more than one or two of our players who have not been at fault for goals this season.

I don't mind commenting on players making errors. It's when people say ill-thought out shit like "he's wank" that I get annoyed.

It's endemic at City, it was born as fan-bonding when we were shite. It just hasn't gone away now we're not shite.
