Sven interview on his time at City

Loved Sven he should never had been sacked, if that clown Frank hadn't sacked him I have no doubt he'd still be manager now.

Sven is a muppet in my opinion, always has been and always will be. Horribly overrated manager. I was delighted he got the boot at City.

I noticed one of his buys, Caicedo, it looking pretty good these days.
Overrated? you really are deluded! toke city to 9. won plenty of trophies in 3 countries. did pretty well with Enlgand compared to other manager in recent times.

Roy,Mark Hughes are the perfect proof of overrated managers, won fuck all can't win away if their life dependet on it. and will probalby never win a trophy in their entire manager lives.

City's squad under Sven was paper thin with no direct quality except Elano who it seems be an overrated player.

No, he's right, he's tremendously overrated. He may have rose City in the table improbably, but there's mountains of evidence against him, especially as an international manager. Complete failures with England, Mexico, and Ivory Coast. He's more a recognized name than anything at this point.

I understand that he managed City in a time that caused some rather improbable hope, and did a good job here, and that needs to be respected, but the results on his resume since seem to indicate that he's not lived up to the reputation he's built.

It's scary to think that the days of Shinawatra were only 2 years ago. Sven did well with what he had.

Agreed.

If he had the money Bobby had we'd have won the league by now. Him and Bobby are good friends i wonder what he learnt from him?

A lot! Mancini has said so himself.

I think Sven was perfect for a short term pick-me-up after the Pearce era but long term we're better off without him. I am thankful that he came but to be honest since he's gone I have come to see that any success we'd have had wouldn't have been all that sustained.

I've heard similar stories - and not all of Thaksin's antics were confined to boardroom meetings. He did take his rantings into the dressing room. I believe it is another 3 years before Wardle is able to go public about any of the events of the Thaksin era, but any City fan who believes the man in any way saved the club is completely wrong.

Bernard Halford has always been a City man

That's funny - I interviewed John Wardle during 2010 for the book I'm writing on the takeovers and he talked in detail about it. The book's been delayed until summer 2011 ("The Journey: Rebuilding Manchester City").

I was really grateful to John and he talked with genuine passion and interest on both takeovers and his time at City.

As for Thaksin.... I've not read all of this thread yet but it's very easy for us to point out all the negatives but those within the Club at the time should have taken steps back then to defend the team, the Club, the fans etc. if they felt there was anything they disagreed with. Those that did, including John Wardle and various permanent staff, should be applauded. Sadly, there were plenty of people who didn't.

It has to be stressed as well that Thaksin did a lot of good within the Club and that without him City would not have found Sheikh Mansour etc. City could have died without Thaksin or at least gone into a coma that would have made 34 years seem like a dream (with Thaksin the financial situation may have worsened but the glamour, appointment of Sven, ability to attract new investment all helped raise City's profile and ambition)! John Wardle talked honestly about the financial situation pre-Thaksin.

That's an interesting view, Gary.

I was under the impression that the financial details of the takeover would not be made publically available for 5 years after the takeover.

I do know that John Wardle was one of the few who intervened at the time, and he should indeed be applauded. But it is intersting that you believe Thaksin did a lot of good at the club, yet you don't balance that view with the extreme risk - in terms of the club's survival -that he took by such extensive
( many would say reckless) borrowing.

I will look forward to reading your book.

I was 16 when Sven took over (2007) I must admitt I prefered Ranieri and was gutted when he rejected us.

however Sven did seem to know what he was doing;

Plus points
Michael Johnson
Micah Richards
Elano (when it suited)
Vedran Corluka (I wouldnt mind him back at RB even now)
Martin Petrov
THE double
Geovanni

Negative points
Fitness issues towards end of season
Elano
Javier Garrido
Rolando Bianchi
Playing superman on the right
Boro 8-1

PS he may have kept his job had the Boj not got injured
