Swansea - Post match thread

Thought yesterday was very similar to the Boro match. We were just lucky they got their equaliser with ten mins to go rather than 1 min. Very worrying that despite it (again) being pretty fucking obvious what was happening during that second half, nobody seemed to be able to lift our urgency until they equalised. Obviously delighted we managed to get the three points in the end but it has to be a worry that when we think we are turning a corner and think we have some momentum/confidence, we still look likely to have a nasty surprise result around the corner because we still have the same mistakes in us and don't seem capable of learning from them. Biggest disappointment for me was that Kompany didn't get a start.

Crooks is massively mis-reading it.

If there's one thing that is very noticeable about the City team this season is how committed we have been during games. we are most definitely a team this season, whereas last season we were just playing the season out

He assisted the first goal for me, don't know if he got a touch or not but he forced the issue which saw the ball pop up to Jesus, that's an assist in my book.

Don't think he's officially being credited with it.

He won't get dropped for Kun on yesterday's showing. Kun showed when he came on why Gabi's benched him.

I was disappointed about Kompany too. Suggests he is not going to play a major part in our end of season.

We had incessant pressure for 45 mins, but couldn't get the 2nd goal. You are bound to get the opposition coming back into it when the nerves kick in.

Although you're right we could easily have drawn that game, if you take the last 4 games, we look like we have more of a cutting edge to our forward play. Jesus and Sane are very direct and create chances. Formerly we could have the ball for 45 mins reach the penalty area, and get nowhere.

He hasn't but for me he should be, it's like the og he forced at West Ham, he should be credited for forcing the og but isn't.

If anything I think he may be rested against Bournemouth, only because he's started the last 11 straight.

On Aguero, his greed is one of the reasons he's got such an incredible goalscoring record but I also feel it MAY be the reason he doesn't fit Pep.

More likely a rest right before Monaco IMO.

yes, I suppose a couple of months ago without Jesus we wouldn't have gone on to win so that is a big positive but for all the good movement and build up play in that first half I still didn't think we created enough clear chances given how good that front three look. Still think we need a better tempo to our play, thought we slowed down our passing too much once we got the goal which made it a bit easier for them to defend. And then like we have seen so many times this season we only seem to be able to play at a decent level for 45 minutes. It looked to me like we came out with the wrong attitude because the first half had turned into such a stroll and once your intensity has dropped it is difficult to step it up again.

Lads, lets not forget how incredible we were in that 1st half. They couldnt get anywhere near us and they were no mugs - The second half showed that.

We'll get there, it wont be this season but it's coming together...

To be honest, I didn't think we were that bad in the 2nd half either. It was a bit meh, but not terrible, in my eyes.

Crooks is massively mis-reading it.

Massively bitter and massively shit-stirring more like. It's blindingly obvious that we have a brilliant team spirit going on. Yaya's been transformed, Sterling's playing the best football of his career, Dave is back to where he was 2+ years ago, Kolarov looks like a different player, Sane is going from strength to strength. Heck even Aguero was grinning throughout on the subs bench!

Crooks is just being a twat as usual.

our home form/ performances is becoming a concern. We don't get the second goal and we are always vulnerable. Crazy how we can dominate as much as we did first half to then be awful second. We could all see the goal coming, only positive on this occasion was the final plot twist in our favour for once! I think Pep should of changed it about a lot sooner than he did though as the whole world could see we was going to concede.

Just watched the 25 min Sky highlights

Brilliant first half
Raz booking was stupid by the lino
2nd half we didn't commit to the press and didn't fight hard enough to get it back, saw their goal coming a mile off
Crowd sounded great
There is NOTHING like a last minure winning goal

What a bollox statement that was, could almost see the shock on Jermaines face when he came out with it.

On the game.... I hated seeing the heads go down 2nd half... too much like old City. I think the problems started in first half though when we didnt take our chances. Thank god for Jesus though.

We need a CAPTAIN who will lead, push, pull & bollock the team in adversity.
If Zabba or Vincent aren't playing we've no one else.
That young blonde lad at Toro could do a good job. He cares.

For most of the game after the goal, Silva and KDB were to far apart leaving Jesus isolated in the centre. That meant 3 defenders could stay out wide on both sides to stop our wide players getting behind their defence with two banks of two in the middle to deal with Jesus.
If space is offered in the middle we have to drive into it not just move the ball from one side of the pitch to the other on front of it.
This has been our problem all season.

That sums it up.....Toure bossed the first half, De Bruyne, Silva were fantastic.....all three of these faded badly when Swansea turned up the pressure after half time. Didn't seem to be an anchor in the midfield second half....must be a mental thing, played second half like a team then went in 4-0 up and could afford to switch off......dominated the first half enough to be 4-0 up, just without scoring the goals..... Would agree about the captain comment above, nobody was running the show second half....

I just don't understand why he didn't start with Vinnie yesterday. If he has had a reaction since the Palace game then I'm surprised he has been on the bench for West Ham and Swansea and if he hasn't had a reaction then I'm incredibly surprised he didn't get the nod yesterday. It's not even about picking the bones out of the goal and saying would he have stopped it (although he may well have closed down the Sigurdsson much quicker). I just think having him on the pitch might have made a difference at the point it became obvious that we needed to show more urgency. We just strolled that second half and nobody on the pitch seemed able to get the team going again. It would have been 8 days between matches, he looked good at Palace and we absolutely KNOW we are better organised with him on the pitch. There is always a chance he will blow up again but he needed to play yesterday, he needs to be given that chance to show he can play a run of games again even if it is just to prove that he can't and that we need to look elsewhere.

Our attack were isolated because we couldn't get the ball to them as quickly second half. Toure ran the show first half, Clements negated him second half. Their plan was to let Stones or Kolarov bring the ball out and try to dictate our build up and it worked a treat. They put no pressure on them 2 because they were happy for them to have the ball.

Maybe Pep doesnt rate him same way he doesn't rate Hart.

Maybe but I would be astonished. I think he got it wrong with Hart but I can at least see what his theory was. If he thinks a fit Vinnie isn't good enough or doesn't suit his system or whatever then I would find that absolutely unbelievable.

Well Vinny was fully fit and didn't get a look in last Wednesday or on Sunday. Kolarov played ahead of him as a CB. Should pretty much tell you which way the wind is blowing.
