The battle for 3rd place

So, blasphemous question, but if United are 4th AND win Europa League, does Premier League get an extra (5th) spot or does the vacant CL position go to Europa League Final loser, or what?
I think it just goes to the general pool to be played for.

Not sure I understand what the "general pool" is?

Aren't the countries of the teams selected for the qualifiers decided BEFORE the event? I know the EL winner gets a CL berth, but what happens in the country that gets the EL winner? Do they keep their OTHER berths (4 in the case of England) or if the EL winner is in the CL positions in their home league, what happens to that "extra" slot?

Maybe I'm missing something? I was of the understanding that no league can have 5 berths, but then who gets the extra place if the EL winner is in a CL position, too?

No more places for English teams other than United's League Cup EL qualification goes to the sixth placed team and the FA Cup winners or runners up place would go to the seventh place team in the Premiership. The "CL" slot would bring another qualifying team from the highest ranked country left into the CL qualifiers based on coefficients but it won't be one of the big countries.

I would love to see Vinnie holding up the F.A cup at Wembley.
What a superb way to bow out ,( if that is what is going to happen? ! )

United were undoubtedly assisted by the officials - the first goal and balance of fouls especially. However, Chelsea were completely gash and unfortunately that was by far the primary reason they lost.

Chelsea were gash...doesn't mean the ref wasn't under intructions to help make the title/top 4 race more interesting

No I agree. However as someone else said. John Terry could have refereed yesterday and Chelsea would have lost. They were so bad, they made the rags look good!

That is probably true, however, if everytime they looked like starting to put 2 passes together play is broken up by Maddley or every 'coming together' goes the raggy way they've not got much chance to change it round.

Ultimately the dye was cast with the 'handball' being missed for the first goal. They were fucked from then on no matter what they did.

Let's hope the ref isn't under intructions when we play them...I expect he will be
