The Boxing thread

No way is he in decline, he barely boxed last night he just wanted to get the stoppage victory. Against a slick operator that is some risk and takes a lot of patience.
Patience is the key word. Literally the first time BJS over committed and fell over his foot Canelo smashed his eye socket in. It was an incredible shot that he waited 8 rounds for without ever getting frustrated. Some talent and confidence to do that and then to know the second he threw it that the fight was over as well.

He's some boy too. You can see he has a cheekiness to his personality but always tries to remain professional. He absolutely destroyed Andrade (in English!) when he was hijacked in the presser. He really, really wanted to fuck up BJS after this week too. Mark Tibbs might have just saved BJS from a very serious injury. One more round...

That shot was coming all night. BJS is awkward and good with the jab but Canelo worked the body all fight making BJS lean over creating the opportunity for the uppercut which Canelo took cleanly. The fact he was taunting him mid round in the 8th and jeering up the fans he knew it was done

What makes you think he’s on the decline?

BJS has always been difficult to hit & extremely awkward to fight against. It didn’t look to me like Father Time is catching up on Canelo, unless I missed something which someone with a better eye than mine for boxing has picked up on?
He looked like he was hurting himself when throwing some punches, wear and tare from too man fights.

His finishing punch was incredible. Think he’d finally figured out BJS head movement.

Watch it mate. Was an intriguing fight & I thought it was pretty close, with BJS definitely winning his fair share of rounds
Just watched it - Saunders was very good, granted he is blessed with an awkward style but is still takes a lot to cause Canelo problems which he did (the right handed always looks shite when missing big against the lefty).

Problem Saunders now (as well as being a twat) is that it was a very good performance, which makes him even more unattractive for some of the fighters that he would like to be involved with (top much risk, not enough financial reward). That's before we take into acco the injury that we now believe he has.

Canelo is relentless, the fighters that he has gone through now is outrageous. How many good fights has he been involved with now?

Amazing Canelo immediately knew that the fight was over as soon as he had landed the shot - he's an absolute beast who manages to combine, high workload, power, speed, evasiveness (generally) and catchi most on his gloves.

Brilliant styled fighter and sure to be an all-time great..........

Canelos rep will always be tared for the drugs suspension for myself. He has been matched well keeping him away from the big fights until those fighters are heading away from there peak. The GGG first fight GGG won that fight how he got a draw to this day I still dont know. I would of love to see the 3rd fight between the pair. Now GGG is not far from 40 thats a fight that will never happen now sadly.

His record he has boxed a lot of aging stars when they where on the way out and built up his rep from it. The fighters out there now for Canelo to fight not many left maybe if Jermall Charlo moves up in weight that be 1 i would like to see happen. Or if Canelo moves up a weight Bivol wouldnt be a bad fight either.

The more canelo does the more credit an over the hill triple g should get for going toe to toe with a prime canelo and very unluckily drawing one and losing another fight . Can you imagine if canelo wouldn’t have given the ibf title up and instead faced a prime time triple g

Went how I expected it to, BJS to cause some problems with his movement and make it a competitive fight until Canelo works out his timing. He also set that punch up by going to the body as others have said(Povetkin did similar on Whyte).

Most of the rounds were competitive but I can't see how anyone had BJS up on the cards personally. To give a round to someone on the back foot so much, they have to land consistently with what they do throw and in some of those rounds DAZN were giving him, he did not do that enough. I was shaking my head when some of their scorecards were shown. He was being hurt to the body, backed up and caught with hooks and uppercuts then doing a silly dance to try and show it didn't hurt when it clearly did.

Great fight though, no shame in BJS losing to Canelo. He's just the better fighter, deservedly going to be regarded as one of the ATGs, whether people like him or not. As for tarnished reputations, BJS and Fury both got caught doping with worse, what hypocrites Billy and his team are. Lets not have double standards, keep the same energy for everyone or not at all.

Agreed. Without any doubt at all he won 2,3,7 and 8. 1 was 50/50 and 4 was close too. 5 and 6 were the only good rounds for BJS but even when he was having success he couldn't put a dent in Canelo and it was only a matter of time before a big shot landed.

Yeah, I was saying the same after the first round, nothing to split them really, at first I was tempted to give it a draw but they don't seem to give 10/10s in boxing these days. I could maybe give BJS 3 rounds but that would be giving him the 1st round which I wouldn't expect the judges to do, those always go to the home fighter/A-side.
