The Boxing thread

Bellew said he told Haye before the fight he was going to drag him into a dog fight... He backed off more than John Stones and could probably count the amount of punches he threw on two hands until Haye got injured? Haha

Some harsh words here. Haye was getting on top when he got injured, don't reckon it would have lasted much longer. Bellew was punching a sitting duck for 6 rounds and I don't believe he hurt Haye once, there's no way he can have another fight at heavyweight. Haye looked physically good and even in the 11th he showed no signs of being hurt except for his leg, even the knockdown was his knee buckling.

The weird thing was that Haye definitely said to his corner at the end of the 6th that his knee had gone, so I don't know why they strapped his ankle. I suppose you always have to give the winner credit but this was pretty dire from Bellew. He boxed very smartly in the first round, catching Haye flush with a couple of counters and seemingly he had a good gameplay but he was poor there after and Haye was winning by two and going well in the 6th when the injury happened imo.

I had Haye up by 3 going into the 6th round. The injury ruined the fight Haye would of finished it mid to late rounds barring that injury. The rematch if it happens will be a money spinner and may lead to Haye getting his revenge. A sitting duck after the injury but Bellew just got over the line. I think the chances of Bellew beating any of the World Champions slim. Wilder KOs him same as AJ. 1 more pay day but Haye seems to be picking up some injuries the shoulder injury he aint fully as powerfull as before the injury for me.

I had the first two rounds for Bellew(not really much done by either of them though), 3rd possibly Haye but call it a draw not enough in it and 4th to Haye as he started finding his rhythm the fight was swinging his way... 5th or 6th the ankle went.

You know what I thought Bellew was talking shite but he said it before the fight regarding the ankle: "He would pull out if it was against any other heavyweight, he's expecting to walk through me"... seems pretty much what happened to me, must have picked that injury up during training(hope it's not a case of before the fight even got made that would be bad) got patched up by that German doctor and thought he would knock him out early.

Meanwhile on fight night Bellew was on the back foot from the off maybe hoping his ankle would start to give him trouble as the fight went on, not actually fighting on the back foot much though despite Sky giving him loads of praise apart from snatching a 1-2 combo as Haye overreached he was just keeping Haye off him and retreating constantly. Bit of a dud main event all in all.

I had first round to Bellew, secondnd to Haye, third a draw and then 4th and 5th to Haye with him well on top in the 6th. Whilst he looked undoubtedly clumsy in the early rounds and kept losing his feet he was starting to box better and landed a few big blows. Bellew didn't and couldn't hurt him. I thought the commentators did a disservice to Haye in the first few rounds, they seemed to think every time Haye stumbled he'd been hit by Bellew, but he hadn't.

Haye's body isn't up to it anymore with injuries to his shoulder, knee and achilles. He needs to retire although he would be favourite in a rematch so he might go for it.

Haye was comfortably going to win if it wasn't for the injury, that much is obvious. You could clearly see who the better boxer was in that fight and Bellew got incredibly lucky. Do I count that as a legit win? No, and I'm sure Bellew doesn't either.

Haye was a little too desperate from the off....his timing was out.. good job it was only bellew in there with haye, looks like jimmy tibbs of michael watson fame was'nt in a rush to pull him should his leg fall off
