Glen Quagmire his team are looking for the best deal out there just because he is a famous fighter you dont sell yourself short. Put it this way his team are very good and will get him a decent deal with the likes of Barry Hearn as your promotor he will get McCloskey a deal thats worth his while. Khans having problems finding someone to fight because he is paying peanuts. Yes like any good promotor looking after Khan you get him as much money as possible but if you have another promotor looking for a better deal for there fighter you have to be willing to meet in the middle somewere to make the fight. Put it this way I dont see Sky being too happy with Khan they put him ahead of a potential Wlad Klitschko v Haye fight and Khan has yet to sort out a fight.

I understand all that, but as a fighter you want to fight the best. I think Olusegun would spark mcCloskey.

Amir Khan has told Paul McCloskey to see sense and accept his offer to fight him.
Khan wants the unbeaten European light-welterweight champ to be his opponent for his homecoming on April 16 at Manchester's MEN Arena and is fuming at the Ulsterman's cash demands.
The WBA light-welterweight king is sick of opponents trying to cash in on his name and says southpaw McCloskey should understand what a great opportunity he has been offered.
Khan said: "The offer we made to Paul McCloskey is the biggest offer he's ever going to get.
"Why is it when someone wants to fight Amir Khan, they ask for a stupid number? "Marcos Maidana asked for a stupid number first time. Then he came to his senses and said 'fine, I'll take the second offer'.
"It's the same with Paul McCloskey and I hope he takes our second offer and it is going to be higher.
"He should think this is an opportunity for a world title fight and if I beat him, it will make me a big, big name."

He got what he wanted, a 2nd offer has been made. If McCloskey really wants the fight he takes the offer.

Dean Byrne and Frankie Gavin has been rumoured as a fight for the future over here in Ireland. With Gavin being Irish Champion and Byrne mainly fighting all over the world and coming home looking for a fight for the title. Both lads are now training together so that will rule out a fight for the time being. Byrne is looking for a promotor as he cant get a deal in the US and would be a high standard fighter for any promotor. I wonder if Frank Warren will add him to his Irish stable of fighters after loosing Macklin to Golden Boy maybe Deano will be offered a deal soon.

Regarding Khan v McCloskey the mirror piece was taken from the Sky interview done over the weekend. I have yet to hear any more from the jurnos over here about the fight but it seems it is going along good. To say McCloskey fears for his health what fighter doesnt fear for his health when he is fighting.

Tim Bradley has the flu apparently. FUCK!

The fight is still on. I think the news about the flu is over a week old from the reports I heard everything is ok. He is hyping the fight tonight on ESPN in the US I think.
Good to hear. I only mentioned it because Spencer Fearon put something about it on facebook before, he said he thought the fight might be cancelled.

BHop makes me laugh...

The fella doesn't quit does he.

A bit of info regarding the Khan V McCloskey fight bbc are running that the fight is going to be sorted by the weekend. From Paulies twitter account nothing has been signed off yet they hope to sign the deal by the Friday the earliest there are still some minor issues to sort out.

As for Spencer Fearon nothing shocks me. The flu thing was reported last week and they said he would be fine for the fight.

Bad news the Khan v McCloskey fight seems to be dead now. By Paul McCloskeys twitter that Team Khan have made the fight impossible still arguing over money. The fight was so close to be made and Team McCloskey seem to think that the Khans have money problems. With Team Khan saying they will go public with the offer they made.
Dont like this to be honest in truth its Khan all over coming out to the media about fights and consistantly saying that fighters want too much money to fight him be it Thaxton and Murray in his early days to this now. Gutted for Paulie to be honest hopefully he gets a World title shot late Summer time and wins a title as Khan's have fucked them up big time.

Amir Khan will not defend his WBA light-welterweight title against Paul McCloskey after negotiations between the two camps broke down on Thursday.

It was believed that the two had previously agreed in principle to fight in Manchester's MEN Arena on 16 April.

A statement from McCloskey's promoter Barry Hearn branded Khan's offer to his fighter as "totally derisory".

"The deals placed on the table were an insult to Paul, an undefeated fighter and a European champion," said Hearn.

"You have to pay your opponents to step in the ring with you, and pay them fairly," he added.

We have a huge fight lined up for Paul in the spring and, who knows, down the line he could face Amir as a world champion himself

Barry Hearn
The percentage share of ticket sales commission and pay-per-view revenue appear to have been the major sticking points between the two parties.

McCloskey claimed the European belt in November 2009 with a ninth- round stoppage of Daniel Rasilla and defended the title twice last year to take his unbeaten record to 22 fights.

"We have a huge fight lined up for Paul at the King's Hall in the spring and who knows, down the line he could face Amir as a world champion himself in a 50-50 split fight," stated Hearn.

Last week, Khan's father Shah said that an offer had been made to 31-year-old Dungiven fighter McCloskey.

"It is up to them to decide whether to accept it," Khan told the BBC at the time.

"We have offered him almost three times what he got paid for his last fight and the ball is in their court - it can happen if they agree to the terms."

Khan has stated his aim of unifying the division this year. He wants to fight the winner of the forthcoming bout between the US fighters Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander on 29 January.

Everyone over here are split on the fight not happening. I can see both cases myself but in fairness I am a bit disapointed it hasnt happend. I can see were Hearn is coming from with the split on the tickets and PPV sales as the amount of Irish fight fans willing to go over for the fight from supporter clubs they were all ready to hit Manchester big time. So McCloskey would of sold a big number of tickets over here and the Sky PPV would of sold big over here as well. Seems it will be just another defence of the Euro crown and hope to get the world title fight some time this year.

Paulie on the breakdown of the fight.

Khans team response to the fight falling out.
Team Khan responds to Barry Hearn accusations - from Team Khan, 28 January 2011

Team Khan is extremely disappointed with the recent press release sent out by Paul McCloskey’s promoter, Barry Hearn, accusing Amir Khan of using the Irish fighter to get a cheap title defence.

A substantial offer was put to McCloskey’s team that would have seen the Irishman receive up to three times the amount he has ever been paid for a fight. Mr McCloskey’s promoter asked for a purse over five times the amount he has ever received.

Every time Team Khan believed that they were close to agreeing terms with Mr McCloskey, his team would move the goalposts and ultimately their demands were rejected as being unrealistic.

Even though Paul McCloskey is not a pay-per-view fighter, his team demanded significant shares of the PPV revenue. In an effort to recognise McCloskey’s ability to sell tickets he was offered up to 20% commission on ticket sales. His team however demanded more. Asif Vali, Business Manager of Amir Khan, said:

“Barry Hearn has out priced his fighter having demanded an astronomical amount despite the fact an excellent offer was put forward to him. The deal put to McCloskey was a great one and looking back on it may be something he will regret.

The challenger’s concern should not be about how much the champion is getting paid but the purse he will be getting – I wonder whether McCloskey has overlooked this.

The offer put to McCloskey’s team was not ‘totally derisory’ as Hearn claimed but was a deal that most fighters in his position would jump at.”

Amir Khan was eager for this all British affair to go-ahead at the Manchester Evening News Arena on April 16th but will now revisit other options currently on the table.

On the back of this release from Team Khan the McCloskey team will be releasing a offical statement to tell the REAL FACTS of this matter so expect this to run on a little bit longer.

Interesting reading the offer that was offered to McCloskey and what they were looking for. I can now understand why McCloskey pulled out of the fight as what was on offer was not the greatest offer.

Taken from Boxing Ireland website. The only reason they want this out there is for fans to make there own decision on why the fight never happend.

Team McCloskey set the record straight over Amir Khan offer - from Team McCloskey, 29 January 2011

This is a response to Amir Khan teams statement regarding the failed deal. There have been a lot of stories since this deal broke down which have not been accurate coming from the Khan camp .Out of respect for Paul's fans and the general boxing public I feel I must state the facts publicly.

I, Francie McNicholl, Paul McCloskey’s manager would like to set the record straight and let the public decide the truth from fiction. It was Paul’s decision alone to not accept the offer.

After initial contact had been made with the Khan team we all agreed the contest could happen subject to conditions being agreed.

The Khan team sent an e-mail to Matchroom (McCloskey's promoter) with an offer of a cash amount that Paul would get paid for the fight. It also said they would require 'Options' on Paul’s next three fights, should he win the contest.

The cash amount offered was way below what one would expect for an unbeaten European champion in a world title fight.

Barry Hearn contacted Khans team asking for two and a half times this offer, which was rejected. Khans team were then sent an e-mail stating the amount that Paul received for his last European fight.

Contrary to Amir Khans teams claims their offer was only TWICE the figure Paul has made before, not 3,4,5,or 6.

As Khans team would not negotiate on this low figure. I suggested we look at other ways that could improve the deal on Paul’s part to make it worthy of a world title fight, namely commission on -

1. Ticket Sales
2. PPV Sales.

I suggested that we would get a commission on the tickets that we sold on an incentive basis. The more we sold the higher percentage we would make, up to a figure of 25 percent. Khans team would only agree to 20% commission on sales over and above 100,000.

Pay Per View

We do accept that Amir is the Pay Per View attraction, with that in mind we suggested that we acquire the viewing figures of Amir Khan versus Maidana fight.

We then proposed that if those figures increased for this fight we would look for one of three options -

1. 50/50 split on Irish sales over and above the last figures

2. 20 percent on overall sales over and above the last figures.

We were prepared to risk that these deals could mean nothing to us if PPV or ticket sales did not increase. If they did both parties would benefit.

3. 80/20 split on nett revenue generated from the contest. This option was suggested because Khan team said they were taking all the risks if this fight did not sell.

Khans team offered 25% onn PPV sale over and above 200,000. The Khan Maidana fight did not get anywhere near this number, so this offer was potentially worthless.

The next requirements of Khans team were their three options on Paul if he won the fight.

1. Khan gets a rematch. Paul would be paid a cash amount.

2. Paul’s next fight would be promoted by Khan and they take a percentage.

3. Paul’s next fight again would be promoted by Khan and they take a percentage.

On Option one we felt Paul as world champion should receive a 50/50 percentage split of the rematch. The cash amount offered was only equal to what we asked for in the first fight.
We were willing to accept Options Two and Three.

These are the facts in black and white taken from our correspondence with Team Khan,
Amir has said that we kept moving the goal posts .

On the contrary we tried to move around the blockage caused by their low offer, which by all accounts was even less than Peterson’s offer.

Amir is a great fighter therefore above all people he knows how tough this sport can be, he also knows the dedication commitment and sacrifices boxers have to make. He should show respect to his fellow professionals and offer them fair purses.

Shah has said they gave in to so many of our demands obviously had they agreed to any of our requests we would not be in this position.

We were never going to sell Paul short he is no walkover in the ring and we will make sure he is not outside it either.

Paul really wanted this fight and we feel that we did everything in our power to make it happen. Our requests were very reasonable in the circumstances. We regret that the Khan team could not agree. The general boxing public are the ones who are missing out on a great fight for this part of the world.

We know that Paul would have won and retained his unbeaten record. We wish the Khan team all the best in the future.

We would like to thank all the fans for their support. 2011 is going to be a big year for Paul McCloskey and his fans. He and his team believe he will be world champion by the end of this year.

hope he gets fucking smashed, he's overrated as it is.

All they were looking for was a decent deal which for the Khans was asking for too much you can see for yourself and make up your own mind but the more I look at it the more I favour the McCloskey team over Khans and they really werent asking for much.

Im pretty sure that Khan doesnt generate very good PPV because they a bit tight with the money

I find this a bit baffling, most fighters would take a world title fight for free. Every fighter believes they are the best, and if you look at hasim rahman v lennox lewis, one punch can change your life, for the better. Yes, leighton you will say, that boxing is a dangerous sport and the fighters need to be compensated, i know i've been there done it, for NO money, just plastic trophies medals and the enjoyment of the sport.

The shame is, i actually believe mcCloskey has a great chance, to smack this clown about and make us all happy.
