The Boxing thread

What a great bill, Katsidis took a beating but as usual showed the fighting heart(my top fighter as mentioned many times before) The Ghost was very impressive and I echo the thoughts that John Murray will never be good enough to fight at top level(pains me to say as John is a great lad and a blue)

Fair play to Morales as always a great fight, is the Khan fight still on lads?

The fight will go ahead but it wont be on Sky the media seem to think that Primetime will get it but it wouldnt surprise me if Premier Sports try and get it. Should know by tonight or tomorrow by the latest. It wouldnt shock me if Sky try and get some money out of Khan over this as they have basically showcased this fight and have lost it to a different station.

Khan may well be better off fighting Ortiz after tonight.

The after fight presser was heated and it made Sky Sports News. A lot of bad blood after it for how and why it got stopped. Also what Khan said that McCloskey quit. Everyone at ringside who was asked about the stoppage said it was bullshit and the cut wasnt even that bad. Whats the point in having a cut man in your corner if he is not given a chance to work on the cut.

Heres a link to the presser at the on Hatton site.

Very disrespectful from Khan during and after the fight, sadly dont think McCloskey has any hope of a rematch.

Very disrespectful from Khan during and after the fight, sadly dont think McCloskey has any hope of a rematch.

Rematch is never happening because McCloskey made Khan look silly at times the amount of shots that Khan missed and he wants some of Money if he was missing like that against McCloskey then against Money it will be even worst. McCloskey is a hard fight to look good in for any fighter because of his defence and head movement. Khan would of tired late on if the fight went on but I still think Khan would of got the win.

Just a quick question can anyone remember a time were the 3 scoring judges on the fight were from the country of 1 of the main fighters. All 3 last night were English. I know a few cases in the US but it was either a all American fight or boxers who were not American. Just seemed strange that all 3 were English.

Watched it on a stream so pictures weren`t that great, had to turn the Prime Time commentary off aswell as it looked like I was watching a different fight.

I too can`t see Khan giving him a rematch, Khan`s a level above ability-wise, I don`t think there`s too much doubt about that, but, McCloskey was well in this fight even though he lost most if not all rounds, took anything Khan threw at him with ease and tee`d off a few shots of his own, which, I`m sure in the later rounds may well have caught Khan out, McCloskey will go straight on Khan`s `list to avoid` now imo, don`t think he expected him to come in with so much confidence tbh.

Shit stoppage. Shit fight. Khan looked very average. He has no inside game whatsoever. He has very little countering ability. McCloskey looked woeful aswell. He has a horrible style to watch, and it just didn't mesh well with Khan's style, which is looking more and more rushed and forced.

It's hard to look good against such a negative southpaw. Especially when the southpaw is leaning onto his back foot. It means you have to reach with your punches. McCloskey's actual gameplan seemed to be based around leaning back, waiting for Khan to reach in, and then wing an uppercut in the hope that it lands.

The cut wasn't that bad, and the doctor should have at least left it to see how it reacts for the next round or so. However, McCloskey didn't actually protest or show his will to fight until after it was obvious the fight wouldn't go on. Then he looked disgusted with it. He hardly looked desperate to continue when the doctor was inspecting him before waving it off. Sometimes that can be a contributing factor to the fight being waved off. I think it was last night.

I think Khan was getting to him. I don't know if he would have stopped him. Probably would have won a shut out...barring Mccloskey getting lucky with a wild punch. Khan was very disrespectful afterwards, but so was McCloskey. Neither fighter really comes out with much credit. I'd hate to see a rematch. It wasn't close or exciting.

It was a stupid fight to take in the first place. A complete farce in all honesty. It was funny to see Big Barry kicking off though.

What can Paulie do he had a gameplan get by the Khan barrage of the early rounds and press on in the latter rounds. Khan was slowing down a bit and missing and using up some energy. For the ref to get the doctor in and to stop the fight on a cut was a fucking disgrace.

Also to say that Paulie wanted out of the fight is a joke. It was a case of he heard the doctor was pulling him out of the fight and the look on his face was more of shock than anything else. Not that he didnt want to be in there. There is fuck all any fighter can do if the doctor pulls you out no matter what fuss you make it means nothing. Also its boxing your going to get cuts thats why they have the cut men in the corner. The ref was too quick to get the doctor in he could of left it till the end of the round. Thats the reason why the Hearns were going mad in the ring Paulie would of made the later rounds of the fight better we all seen how Khan was during the Maidana fight when he was gassed in the late rounds it could of been the same last night but we will never know. Khan would of won the fight no matter what on the cards.

Also I beleive that Jim Rosental may be in a bit of troble. He made a racist remark about Khan. A couple of the boxing boards were going on about it. I didnt hear it my self but a number of people did on air.

Next weekend should be a good 1 with the Bantamweight tournament on 2 good fights Joseph Agbeko v Abner Mares in the Final. Also on the same bill is Vic Darchinyan v Yonnhy Perez in the consolation bout. They seem to think that the winners of each fight will fight each other later in the year. This is what boxing needs more of.

I have said before that I would love to see another Super 6 in the Super Bantamweight division as the talent there is amazing but sadly no Americans for the tv in the US but that would be a great thing to see happen.

I saw it differently to you mate.

I thought Khan was starting to land a few as the fight went on. He was knocking Paulie off balance and i think he stung him with a few.

Khan struggled late on against Maidana because Maidana is naturally a pressure fighter. McCloskey isn't. He also doesn't have anywhere near the same power as Maidana, so he was never going to disorganise Khan in the same way Maidana did.

As for the stoppage, i still don't think McCloskey helped himself. It was a shit decision, but he didn't look that arsed until the referee waved it off.

Didn't hear what Rosental said. Could be quite interesting.

Wow, didn't realize Juanma got beat yesterday! Didn't bother to look about for his fight as I assumed he'd piss it. Looks like that's Gamboa/Juanma off now then.

The light divisions now have some talent in them that it will take a speical fighter to unify any of those divisions. I only wish that the likes of Sky would show more of these fights as the standard is so high. I cant knock Sky as they have sorted us out with Manny's fight time and time again and for free as well with Moneys fights over the years which is great. Sadly for fight fans Manny and Money may well call it a day at the end of the year. With Moneys court case still not sorted I feel we may never see Money fighting again and what a shame that will be. Gifted fighter and will go down as a modern day legend. I just hope Sky will look at trying to put on some of the younger fighters at the light weight divisions.

Also Froch split with Mick Hennessey rumours are he will be promoting himself but I hope he gets a good advisor on his side to get the best money he can from Sky for his next 2 fights in the Super 6.

Bradley has turned down the Khan fight. Would have made $1.4m aswell. Bit of a shame.

Were did you see that Ono? The Khans are a nightmare to work with everyone in the business know that. Bradley should be getting more than that for a unification fight Bradley team could well be looking for closer to $2 million for the fight. Khan and his team are yet again messing about when it comes to the fights.

Also seen late last night Floyd Money Mayweather court date got put back yet again to the end of July. The more this rumbles on there is less of chance we will ever see this man box again.

Another bits and pieces. Macklin v Strum is on the same night as Kell Brooks fight and there is no tv coverage so far for it as Sky are showing Brook. Prizefighter next weekend put a small bet on Perez the Irish based Cuban he is looking great in training and they seem to think he has a great chance of winning it.

Weekends fight Barker should win but it will be a real hard fight will go to the cards but Barker to get the decision. On the undercard Pajo Hyland is fighting the best out of the Hyland brothers hope Sky put him on decent lad and decent fighter.

How did I know Khan would get the blame for Bradley turning the fight down?

Twitter mate.

It's not anything to do with Khan.

Basically Bradley has been offered $1.4m, which is a hell of a lot more than he got for fighting Alexander. Khan would have only taken $1.6m from the Bradley fight anyway.

The problem is, HBO guaranteed both Alexander and Bradley $1.2m each for their next fight. The original plan was to stage a rematch of their first fight. However, that fight didn't sell, didn't really make any money, and it was a pretty dull fight. Bradley sure as hell isn't making $2m from fighting anyone. He couldn't sell out a 2,000 seater ballroom just a few hundred yards from his house.

Basically all Bradley has to do is find an opponent who HBO will accept, and he'll pocket $1.2m. So from his perspective it makes more sense for him to fight a gimme and pocket a career high payday, than it does for him to risk losing to Khan for only an extra $200k.

The Khan fight will still be there for him afterwards.

HBO pre-approved four opponents for Bradley before the Alexander fight. They were Alexander (rematch), Berto, Maidana and Khan. Out of those four, only Khan is available. so HBO could force Bradley's hand, but chances are they will settle on an alternative top ten ranked opponent, and Khan will have to do the same.

It's a shame. It is a little bit annoying, but you can see Bradley's logic. But on the other hand, if it was Khan turning down the fight, he'd be getting all kinds of shit said about him.

My advice never listen to Leightons prizefighter bets(was it Timlin you predicted would win the heavyweight prizefighter? Lost first round if I remember rightly)

I also predicted Wille Big Bang Casey and if I remember corectly a couple of people on here had him to win it as well.

Regarding Khan getting the blame on fight not happening well lets be honest here he is known to be a nightmare to work with down the years. So many fights never got made be it with Thaxton or Murray that should of been made because Warren back then wouldnt offer the money they deserved.

Now the Khans are continuing on were Warren left off how many fighters were linked with Khan before McCloskey signed. Then to top it off they fuck it up and move away from Sky to Primetime were they didnt get the numbers. Khan wont fight in the UK for a long long time after the shit he pulled with Sky.
