Mayweather's best move was taking the fight only after witnessing Manny's steady decline over the last 2-3 years.

The second best was selling it as the fight of the century.

The ring stuff was easy by comparison.

More like flight of the century.

Money put on a clinic there. Even if they fought 5 years ago the result would of been the same. The 2 men are aging but Money is by far the greatest of my generation. Its a art hit and not be hit back its what any young fighter should do watch Money that's how you fight a defensive fight hit on the counter and use your jab. A legend has beaten what's been put in front of him at ease tonight. I would love to see him fight Keith Thurman in his last fight or Kell Brook but I get the feeling it be Khan sadly. Sure no matter what he sitting on the top table with the elite fighters of all time.

Surely its about entertaining people as well? That was a dire fight and all Floyd did was ensure he won the fight with no thought to entertaining the millions of people who paid a lot of money. Yes he boxed well, but he didnt fight and his whole tactics were based on not fighting. For what was supposed to be the fight of the century it was a complete non event.
Anyone paying out money to watch Mayweather and expect to be entertained is living on another planet. This is what he does. It shouldn't have come as a surprise to anyone.

A non event maybe but he was technically too good for Manny. I have seen some great boring fighters over the years. Andre Ward , Money and Rigondeaux all 3 have a lot in common boring but technically brilliant and the best in there division as they are just too good for others.
Manny shouldn't of got the fight he is on his way out not getting any younger he should retire. The fighters out there in this division once Money retires they should do a super 6. Brook , Khan ,Thurman, Maidana , Manny and 1 other maybe Bradley all in a Super 6 or drop Manny for Porter there will be some great fights out of them.

Nice to see that Mayweather continues to be the Chelsea of boxing. I think most people knew it would go that way, the only thing that actually surprises me is that so many people bought into the hype and the fight generated so much money. Surely anyone who'd seen Mayweather fight in the past few years knew it was never going to be an entertaining fight?

Lets not forget Jamie Foxx's singing though, best bit of the night. He will wake up in the morning cringing to fuck.

Most definitely this. Don't forget the accompanying hammond organ. Sounded like some pissed up,tone deaf coffin dodger playing. Hilarious.
Yes, and how cringeworthy was it watching that little shit Bieber jumping on the bandwagon and walking out with the Mayweather entourage. Embarrassing.

My brother in law runs a local boxing club and is one of those "fans of the sweet science" types and he had some interesting comments today.

Basically suggested that the problem is that most Big Fight Only watchers are getting really annoyed at Mayweather fights not because of him, but because of the actual rules of the sport. A defensive fighter who can clinch and throw some potshots will ALWAYS beat an aggressive fighter of the same talent level because the referees allow them to stifle the fight. This stifling is well inside the rules and many in boxing, both as a profession and the hardcore set, see it as the perfect application of the sport where you take a defined ruleset and use them to the best of your advantage.

Essentially Mayweather/Pac was a boxing match and people wanted to see a fight which aren't the same things.

Yeah, that is true. Lennox used to say he was a pugilist specialist. Boxing is the art of hitting without getting hit apparently. But I would say the best boxing match has a mixture of both boxing and fighting. Generally a fighter comes forward throwing shots, and a boxer tends to counter punch.

Take Ward vs Gatti or Morales vs Barrera or Ayers vs Rigby type - those were fights. Slugfest I think they call it. Compulsive viewing for the sheer heart, but not a lot of 'boxing'

My favourite matches though are when there is a counter puncher, who tries not to get hit, who is up against a fighter who will slip or eat the jab all night to land his own shots and brings the 'boxer' down to his level. Like Benn and Eubank, Magee/Hatton, even Gomez/Khan to an extent. Thrilling bouts.

There is merit in both styles, but I think the boxer tends to beat the fighter.

Mayweather vs Pac has done wonders for the UFC imo.
The fans wanted to see combat , instead we got jab and run tactics For 12 rounds. As mentioned before mayweather won because he exploited the rules to his advantage to win on 'points'. Mayweather landed very few solid shots but ate a few , if the fight went on until someone won it would have been pac in round 30.

Jamie foxxs rendition of the star spangled banner set the tone for what was to follow embarrassing and instantly forgettable.

Don't forget the full length Mexican national anthem which went on and on.

Reminded of this classic Borat troll.

can't see Floyd retiring at 49-0. At least 2 more fights left for me.

Floyd vs. Thurman? Marquez? Brook? Khan?
Pacquiao vs. Maidana? Bradley?

One of the most anti-climatic and overhyped fights of all time.

Boxing doesn't have that "big fight" feel anymore in the Tyson, Lewis days. Even The Prince Naseem Hamed days I miss.

Tyson? Yes, I'll give you that, although he didn't last that long. The rest you mention are nobodies.
