The British Monarchy

If people want to be proud of the strength and power that the British Empire had, arguably the strongest in human history, that's fine, i just prefer it if that pride isn't based on some ridiculous notion that we were also 'really nice'. We weren't. You don't get that much power by being nice, you get it by being ruthless.
Even just in Australia ....Starting in 1794, mass killings were first carried out by British soldiers, then by police and settlers – often acting together – and later by native police, working under the command of white officers.
Thousands of Aboriginals were shot and burned.

The killing times was an extensive investigation by the Guardian.
It's quite an upsetting read tbh.

Seems that us Brits terrorized large chunks of the world.

Speak for yourself. I wasn't born then.

That's actually a very good but a very depressing point.

So we can't change anything because we would probably get something worse :(

However, I am very much cheered up by the thought of Piers Morgan's reaction if the bolded line came to fruition!!
I would be on the front row (with my knitting).

Apologies I meant that they do not have the ability to sell it which ownership might imply when the context was about the wealth of the monarchy. Income from the crown lands were surrendered to parliament and payment towards the cost of civil government abrogated. This was of course because the cost exceeded the revenue! The current income of 25% of the Crown Estate's revenue is due to the extra cost for various refurbishments, and it is supposed to reduce to 15% by 2027. Arguably, as key historic buildings that additional cost is something the majority of the country would support...although most certainly to a higher degree if access to the general public was allowed!

Back to the original point, I wouldn't include the Crown Estates assets towards the monarchy's rather large wealth. But I would include 25% of it!

A simple solution (and surprisingly one the Tories have never thought of) is to privatise the royal family. Those that desire it can fund it. Those that don't can opt out. Then all the Yanks and Japanese tourists can pay a toll to get through a gate to walk or drive down the Mall and stand outside Buck Palace or Windsor etc.
