The home brew thread

How is everyone getting on with the homebrewing? My brother got married 3 weeks ago and we homebrewed the entire thing. Wine, beer, cider.... it was superb. Had all the bottles labelled too so it looked the business. The wine was made from decent kits (Kenridge Classic) and went down superbly. The cider also received rave reviews.

Am finally going to get round to all grain brewing now that is out of the way.
what a great idea
I've done a bit lately california connoisseur pinot grigio
festival new zealand pilsner its a superb kit
apple wine fermenting now from fresh apples off my tree (experimental) looking good

That looks cool as fuck Tiny, i like the addition of the beer bottle indicating drinking and the use of light to medium machinery :-D
You may end up with me annoying fuck out of you to make me something cool out of wood...wait no i didn't say that, somewhere in there is a joke aimed at my desire for wooden sex toys and some fucker on here will dig that joke out.

Will be investing in a all grain kit for christmas and was thinking about doing a wheat beer for my first brew. Also want to do a stout, has anyone here used chocolate wheat malt before? Wondering what characteristics this would give the beer...

Good to see all the homebrew tramps in this thread still hard at it in the early hours of Monday morning! I hope you all remember to change out of your piss soaked clothes and have a shave before work;-)

Just kegged a "lawnmower" beer. Cheap and cheerful, kegged and carbed, had a taste and it's real good, one of the best I've done st these early stages.

Needs another day carbing but then it'll be good to go!

Anyone else still brewing?

I wouldn't mind a go at this. Can anyone recommend a beer to start with and a good starting kit? Cheers

100% get yourself to tesco tomorrow and buy yourself a coopers starting kit, they're on offer. Get a lager can kit from there too and a brew enhancer 2. Read the instructions and off you go.

You'll need some sanitiser which you can pickup at wilkos, and then just go for it!

Ok thanks very much!

I just bought my first ever kit today, I didn't even realise there was a thread on it but happy there is!!

My bank just gave me $300 (about 150 quid) so decided to buy some equipment, it worked out around 200 quid in total.

I got a beginners kit, think it includes a couple of buckets, hydrometer, auto syphon, bung, airlock, sanitiser etc. I also bought an 8.5 gallon stainless steel pot with temp gauge and ball valve. I'm starting off on extracts to get a feel for it first. Picked up some coopers and Alfred's IPA.

I read on several forums some people don't bother chilling their wort and let it sit overnight, anyone else do this? My pot won't even fit in my sink

The fella at the shop told me to move to brew in a bag once I get comfortable

Happy days mate, welcome aboard.

RE leaving wort to chill overnight, never done it myself but I know it is coveted by a lot, just make sure your sanitation is spot on, and you get the lid on asap.

Note that you'll only need to do this or worry about this for all grain, if you're using a kit then you won't need to think about it for now.

Essentially you're boiling water, adding ferment able sugar, a malt extract kit and topping up with cold water, aiming for around 21 degrees or so.
