Time again for Richard Marsh's story of when he, British Railways Board chairman, arrived at Euston, and a porter (remember them?) carried his bags to a taxi. Marsh offered him a tip, which the porter refused, saying "I don't take money from people I work with".

But both of them could say "I work for the same employer".

You work for an Organisation but still say "I'm able to pay some people that work for me"? How proprietoral is that?

I've been a Senior Manager in my time and ran my business for 10 years before I retired, I never once described anyone as "worked for me" they were colleagues, simple as, describing someone as working for you is utterly demeaning and insulting, you've got likes off some "Socialists" on here, absolutely baffling.

All “worked for me” means is that he’s the boss and people report to him and receive instructions from him. It might not be the most appropriate way of describing staff that report to you but it’s not worth getting upset about.

I'm far from woke, I ran my own small parts haulage bysiness for the last 10 years of my working life, I employed a few people over those years, never once did I say those people "worked for me". It's just down to human decency and appreciation that someone would join me to help my business and make a profit.

I passed my business on to the last lad who worked with me, I didn't ask for any money and gave him one of my vehicles FOC and the other one at a reduced rate.

Do you call your CEO Mr? I didn't and if you read my previous post about Nigel Payne you'll know he referred to me as a colleague, Google him to see the good work he's done over the years especially for the Professional Jockey's Association.

You're entitied your view if course but I've never come across anyone in my life who minded if their boss said "Peter works for me" or whatever. Btw, I don't have anyone working for me, so I don't have to worry about it, not that I would.

And do I call our CEO Mr? Is that a joke? No of course not, I call him Dave. Although his name is Rodney ;-)

Like I said earlier, it’s all about context for me. The idea that it’s always done from a demeaning viewpoint i’d completely disagree with, in fact most times I’ve used it have been from the position of either support or protection.
