The Labour Government

Why should kids have to live in poverty for another two years?

It's going to have a serious detrimental effect on their life chances in the future.

Well it would be guaranteed way longer than two years if the Tories stayed in power and zero chance this cap would ever be scrapped.

Labour will be funding way more into the NHS, Social services and welfare programs-
Which will be costing billions. That will
Help those in poverty right ?

They simply right now can’t scrap this policy with just a click of a finger and risk the economy - they need time and planning.

Surely got to give them more than a few weeks right ?
They’re already no doubt planning huge funding for schools, teachers, NHS and other welfare programs.
For now the benifit cap stays in place but that’s not to say it will be the same in a year or two.
Just give him another tournament;-)

Maybe the leadership should have given some of the disgruntled members of the squad their chance to let off a bit of steam rather than threatening to sack anyone who voted with their conscience?

This is what leadership is about. Do you reckon that Pep occasionally allows the players to vent off a bit of steam and play wherever they want or however they feel?

It doesn't mean that Starmer agrees with the cap, he just can't change it now however this government is 3 weeks in and it still has 4 years and 49 weeks to find an alternative.

Labour is obviously a broad church and it's quite obvious that if discipline is lost then the party will tear itself apart. We've just seen the Tories do exactly that and they then lost their worst election in history.

Fuck sake. The Tories were always going to lose. Risk the economy? It's money that will go straight back in to the economy and help kids not go hungry at night.

We are talking about helping out the most vulnerable in society mate? Perhaps we can hire some more social care workers to collect parcels from food banks rather than just put money in the bank accounts of their parents.

Seven out of a maj of 181 is a fly on a cows arse and inconsequential. My guess is the cancellation of the Bibby Stockholm contract renewal and other steps taken and to come will be saving money to be put to use and this 7 could be made to look damn stupid for a performative knee jerk reaction like this - 18 days in FFS

I watched John McDonnell speak passionately about the 2 child limit on election night and he has stood by what he believes in, fair play to him.

Ok then - Labour haven’t scrapped it because they just enjoy poverty and kids starving- is that what you’re seriously suggesting?

I agree but 18 days in with a program set out this was a suicide mission - get their ducks in order and then make the change - in any event such a vote winning major policy announcement was never going to be made in this manner tonight.

For some people theres no point giving any government time to wait and see, because they unless a government does everything they want ,which is impossible and they can’t accept compromise, they have no time for it.

I personally believed it would be something that would be announced in their first budget, so maybe you're right they want to do it then. Not holding out any hope for it though.

Tory K has whipped out "Boris" from her secret draw watching all this.

Me top but I guess the way to do it is find the money then make a proper announcement in the House and further deflate the Tory balloon

It's always the same people though. I'll give it a few weeks until the socialists are doing what they did everyday in the Tory thread and just start repeating endless shite. All because their gang has been marginalised out.

The only thing they can't do this time around is call their fellow electorate thick twats for voting Labour because they probably did so themselves....

I've never understood the benefits cap, for kids. Surely a country that has to import worker's from abroad should have a long term goal encouraging the population to have kids. If that includes child benefit for every child, and even lower income tax if a parent/parents are working, so be it.
