No it’s 1 in 4 - although I suspect much of that is their home. 1 in 5 is the total for all age groups not just old folk.

The 1 in 5 is where the head of the household is over 65 and is responsible for the household finances.

what I couldn't understand is as they came from all over by car and train. The Police said in the afternoon they were aware of the plans and even said the EDL were organising it. Why not just stop them travelling? Turn cars away - get them on a train back where they came from? They did that to the striking miners.
 
What do the pensioners who don't have those millions do?

The single pensioners with meagre savings for a rainy day who are frightened of putting on their heating or are too proud to beg or claim? The ones not entitled to any benefits at all?

Having thought about this for a few days , without a proper drive to get everyone that can get , does get pension credit then it doesnt sit right with me , could have been handled much better . Also i remember labour insisting those with the broadest shoulders should pay most , so it is a strange place to start saving money

I hope they at least hunt down the ppe fraud money , they said they would, do it

That makes no sense, if you're not claiming for what you're entitled to but kicking off that you will lose your warm home allowance then you're a fool.

I had to swallow my pride after my accident , takes some doing when i had always worked but you have to get over it ,that or starve

You are not counting the people slightly above pension credit claiming thresholds............

Calling pensioners fools who are too proud to claim stuff isn't very heartwarming now is it pal?

Yep I'm sure being proud will keep them warm, just stubborn idiots if that is the case. And plenty of people are just above thresholds for all kinds of help not just pensioners, how many families are affected by a 2 child UC cap? The children didn't choose to be born but they're punished as a result. Wonder how many pensioners support that cap.

Division between poor people isn't healthy ............all poor people should be helped ...pensioner or not.

No but being to proud to claim pension credit and stopping yourself from getting WHD is just daft. What they really mean to say is they cba and prefer when it is done for them.
