I don't have an issue with better public services and everyone having to chip in a bit more to pay for them. My grave concern is that the government cannot run a piss up in a brewery and most of the extra money taken off people will be wasted for little or no discernable gain.

And I also fear that some people who are not expecting it, are going to be very significantly worse off. The inheritance tax limit is currently £325k, plus up to £175k more if you are leaving your house to your kids. And then double that if you are a surviving spouse, since the deceased spouse passes their £500k to the survivor.

I suspect they are going to mess with this significantly. And MANY people at end of life own a house worth more than £325k.

I will never get the chance to own a home. I'm beholdent to being bummed by landlords and extortionate rent.

I don’t think one particular section of society will foot the bill, so I do foresee a tax increase across the board and, as many have said, if services improve that would be positive.

As long as those using loopholes to avoid tax are chased down.

These loopholes are crafty bastards we've been trying to close then down for decades.

He needs to start to tax the big online retailers and IT companies, those that avoid paying tax on profits made in the UK. The Amazon's, Starbucks, Ebay, Facebook, Google, Adobe, Primark, Apple and Microsoft amounst many others.

They pay less so the rest of us have to pay more.

Let's see if Starmer has any balls to go after these or will he be beholden to them just like all the other governments before him.

What a shit state of affairs, the tories are right cunts for leaving this mess behind. It's very very hard to fix with no surplus cash knocking around. Most likely capital gains tax will be raised and Entrepreneurs' Relief disposed off. Then business tax raised most likely before income tax and NI. The first priority must be to fix social housing and stop paying landlord rents, this will take 5-10 years to fix though. Similar for care homes. In fact, anywhere where businesses have snuck in and started to cream off the public purse like NHS agency staff.
