The Labour Government

My prediction is that there will be under 100 self-servative MP's going into the next General Election (through defections and criminal acts) and they will still lose seats.
The standard of Tory MP can never have been lower. They need to find 600 people willing to stand that are intelligent and articulate.

The problem is the present-day 'Conservatives' are not remotely conservative.

Since Thatcher, they have increasingly become radicals. The 'Reform' party are an even more extreme version of right-wing radical, but essentially shysters.

Pernicious American influence is to blame for much, perhaps most, of this trend.

Strange to say, but if we had a genuine conservative movement based on protecting our national institutions and, above all, the rule of law, I might be tempted by the offer.

The present 'Conservative' politicians appear to believe the rule of law is an awkward inconvenience that gets in the way of their arbitrary tendencies. More like King Charles I than Winston Churchill.

Because that's what the country is mate. That's why Starmer got 20% of the electorate voting for him and 80% not.

The minor issue for the majority was that the Tory party had become unelectable and people were not prepared to hold their noses and vote for them any longer. So we have a Labour government a majority never wanted, and when they've turned out to be far worse than anyone could have possibly imagined, it's hardly surprising everyone - who didn't vote for them in the first place - is against them.

If there was a GE tomorrow, the Monster Raving Looney party might win. Labour would certainly get even less than 20% of the electorate voting for them. Reflect upon that for a moment: Less than 1 in 5 would vote for them*

Therefore, is it any wonder that the media, who ultimately just want to sell clicks or newspapers, are being critical? They merely reflect the mood of the nation.

* Given only 1 in 5 voted for them in the first place and now they are far less popular than then.

That’s demonstrably untrue though given the vote share in elections of right vs left wing parties. The press isn’t reflective of that at all, which is also why the bbc is still seen as the most trusted.

The country is between centre left and centre right. The Overton window has shifted a long way right too though, to the point one nation conservatives, which were the mainstay of the party only fifteen years ago, are now outliers in their own party.

Neither Jenrick nor Badenoch will bring their voters out, but thankfully Starmer will.

in 5 years time ........... I remember people on here crowing that Johnson was on for 3 terms in 2019 having led us to the sunlit Brexit uplands with the EU eating out of the palm of his hand and us trading billions $ with the USA ................ rather foolish claims being made this far out

We had a trade surplus with the US of 75 billion last year just saying.
