The Labour Government

I don;t think the state pension is a 'disgrace' at all.
Basic is £550pm so going off my expenses; 45pm gas and leccy, no rent/mortgage, 120 food, 70 council tax (oaps get upto 100% reduction). That leaves around £315 for beer and tabs.
Obviously not all oap's live rent/mortgage free but if they've 'worked all their lives i'd expect most of them to have paid off the mortgage.

£45 p/m gas and electric?

Give over lol

Talking of which, how do you feel about Boris Johnson's two-tier system that saw him and his mates partying while 100,000 people actually died?

And what sort of jail sentence do you think the disgraced ex-PM should be looking at?

Presumably we are all expecting a jail sentence for disgraced MP Mike Amesbury for agrivated assault ? For repeatedly punching a man whilst on the ground? Or do we think we are going to see more evidence of our two teir justice system in action?
When Mone, her ilk and the tufton street crew are in jail then I will believe we don't have two tier justice, Bozo should also be doing time

All those sites (and financial advisors), that give projections on pension income, get all worked up about it running out before you hit 100.

Frankly, if I hit 100, then I'm pretty sure the previous 20 years will have been spent sitting on the sofa watching TV, and maybe taking the dog for a short walk. There should definitely be more advice on burning through a bit more money before you retire, and then doing as much as you can, while you still can, followed by twenty years where your major cost is a packet of Werther Originals every other week.
I’ve always felt that defined benefit pensions should work the other way round. Start higher and reduce by 2/3% a year rather than lower and increasing.

Unless you are super fit or need care, you absolutely won’t need a great deal of income when you hit 80.

Regulators that unfortunately! (Projections)

My in laws spend less than £900 per month as they can’t do much due to the deteriorating health of my FIL. They don’t have a car anymore and bills are about £600 or so plus food on top. That’s about it. The highlight of their month is a hospital apt!

Those magnificent Tories left another fucking time bomb.

Their change to migration laws earnings to stay in the country is affecting many members in my union and will probably be the same in other industries. We've approached management who's HR department are saying 'nothing to do with us it's a government policy.' and seemingly factoring in the savings on wages to increase their personal dividends.

Tens of thousands of workers abandoned. People who actively contribute to society.

At the moment labour are ignoring this issue but this time next year it will be a major problem.

We've written to our GS to convene an emergency meeting with our trade union parliamentary group to try and poke the government into doing something.

Do I really have to post a pic, footy's on?

90p a day in standing charges so if you x that by 31 days it’s £27.90 so if you guys are using a tad over £60 a month in gas and electric and your wife is at home with the heating on then you’re either magicians or I just don’t believe you tbh mate.

No big deal either way, I don’t need to see any pictures ;-)

I am an OAP and the state pension for most who retired post 2016 is £880 . every 4 weeks . I also get a works pension which of course changes the landscape but here’s my expenses
Gas and Electric £85 pcm
Rates £135 ( I get 25% reduction)
Water £30
TV lice £15
House Ins & Estate management fee £ £425 Pa say £35 pcm
Food bill £ £160 pcm
I own my own house so things like annual boiler service, £150, replacement of basic white and other household products. In 24 that amounted to £730 so another £60 pcm.
I am sure there are other bits like broadband, phones etc which yes I get it aren’t 100% necessary but in my household costs that’s another £35 pcm.
So that leaves circa around £300pcm but from that you have to factor in transport costs, yes I get a bus pass but the nearest bus route is circa 3 miles away so I run a car which costs at least £150 pcm , if there’s any repairs or the car needs replacing that’s your pension gone.
Then you have to factor in things like dentists. In December I had to pay £319.10
I have 2 children and 3 grandchildren. I don’t have to but thankfully I can but can you really imagine a father/ grandfather not buying birthday & Christmas presents?
Then you have clothes, haircuts, glasses etc.
On £880 pcm I would not qualify for pension credit (that’s convenient isn’t it)
The new pension does provide a basic subsistence style of living but that’s about it. I am lucky that I was a Civil Servant so do more than ok but for those that have to live of £220 per week struggle suggesting otherwise is churlish

I haven’t mentioned things like EE TV ( which I use to watch footy) meals out, clothes etc)

Are you living in a cupboard! £45 gas and electric that’s the standing charge alone.

Pensioners and the wfa seems to be the most discussed topic on this thread. Far more than say child poverty which is more prevalent. Is that because of the demographic of BM? Is there a hint of selfishness to people's complaints?

I see that Reeves is now so desperate to be seen as pro-growth and investment that she’s already had to water down elements of her harmful non-dom legislation.

How long did that last? Probably not even 90 days.

Much more rowing back to come on March 26, given the disastrous effect her Budget has had on the economy.

Completely out of her depth.

Politically, this will become a running sore as people will -with some merit - say she is prioritising millionaire non-doms above pensioners heating, waspis, farmers etc.
Compared to Government, being in opposition is easy.

It isn't 'churlish' at all.
You admit that you don't need the state pension because you sorted your shit out earlier in life. The fact you dont qualify for pension credit isn't 'convenient' either. It means you already get enough.
