We've been left with dregs. First we were left 20 billion wide of the mark from a bunch of inept grifters who somehow clung on to power despite bringing the country to its knees. And now we've got someone 'playing silly games with numbers'.The PM digging himself a hole this morning at PM questions. He got his numbers hopelessly wrong yesterday and didn't like being called out on it.

Strange aint it, when i first started work the tax rate was 33p in the £1 and i felt well offGovernments do not have to manage budgets in the same way that you and yours do .

I think it's because over the years we have seen plenty of tax rises with no visible improvement to our standard of livingStrange aint it, when i first started work the tax rate was 33p in the £1 and i felt well off
Now its what 20p in the £1 and i feel poor.
The rich paid 70p in the £1 and were still rich
Now with Higher rate: You will pay 40% tax on anything you earn between £50,271 and £125,140. Additional rate: You will pay 45% tax on anything you earn over £125,140. and they have gotten even richer than ever.
As those with least have the higher propensity to spend, they should drive economic growth, but it appears that the governments of the last 30/40 years have all believed that giving more money to the wealthy will drive growth.
Now we have the ridiculous situation where a Labour government has promised not to raise taxes because somehow it is now the case that taxes are bad.
Taxation can be used for things we all want, strong armed forces, decent healthcare, workable infrastructure, education, welfare, libraries, community centres and hundreds of other things that benefit society as a whole. How is that a bad thing?
It just feels like we're forever treading water. Give in one hand, take from the other and all that malarkey. Big announcements every few years about investing in schools, NHS etc. on the back of tax rises. Guess what, a couple of years down the line and things are in still in shit state. Not directly related, but I'll guarantee the latest water bill rip off rise will have no effect on the things it was intended for.I think it's because over the years we have seen plenty of tax rises with no visible improvement to our standard of living
It's a great plan, don't tax us and you will be better off when the economy grows said politician who will subsequently get richer.Strange aint it, when i first started work the tax rate was 33p in the £1 and i felt well off

Well let's be honest, either way isnt good enough, he either made a mistake on a big issue, or he deliberately deceieved. We all expect better. And the spending increase announcement wasn't enough.Stop the world
He either got his numbers really wrong by mistake yesterday or he did it deliberately to exagerate the spending. Either way isn't good enough.I didn’t think that at all, both numbers are fine to use. It’s a semantic argument that’s ultimately pointless.
lol, you’re first to stick the knife in. You need to get a lifeWell let's be honest, either way isnt good enough, he either made a mistake on a big issue, or he deliberately deceieved. We all expect better. And the spending increase announcement wasn't enough.

I suspect he has a lot more to worry about rather than fact checking every number he is givenHe did what every politician does which is go for the most impressive sounding option. They’re ultimately both the same thing though, neither are wrong.
Not at all, should the PM be exempt from observations and criticism ? We both want the best government possible and deserve the better from the PM.lol, you’re first to stick the knife in. You need to get a life

When you state in an important announcement that you will increase spending by 13.4 billion a year!!, when its actually less than half that, it most certainly is wrong. He did what every politician does which is go for the most impressive sounding option. They’re ultimately both the same thing though, neither are wrong.
Two things:Not at all, should the PM be exempt from observations and criticism ? We both want the best government possible and deserve the better from the PM.
We both know that the last few Tory governments had a regular habit of deceiving the public or making mistakes and were rightly called out for it on here and in the news at the time.
You seem to be suggesting that the new Government and PM shouldn't be held to account. I should remind you that it was Radio 4s The World at One that immediately pointed this error in his numbers yesterday. Come on mossi, I thought you were above the blind sheep level of devotion that some on here display to the new government.
When you state in an important announcement that you will increase spending by 13.4 billion a year!!, when its actually less than half that, it most certainly is wrong.
Lol, you could use that excuse for every blunder. I don't recall you using it for the last Government? Ummmm. Two things:
Don't you think he has more pressing things than to have to fact check every piece of detail given to him?
You yourself don't know whether the PM lied or was given duff info
So yes, I repeat you are sticking the knife in (again)
That's not what he said yesterday. Perhaps you should email Radio 4 and tell them they heard it wrong aswell. It’s not though, he said it was a 13.4 billion year on year increase compared to where we are today. That’s not an incorrect statement to make, it’s a factually correct one.
It’s a misleading one too though as it’s not a 13.4 billion increase on where we would have been in 2027, it’s a 6 billion one.
