The Labour Government

Why can we talk about the work shy? You seem to be in some sort of denial ?

Because it’s lazy and a way to avoid tackling a lot of the issues that are behind the increase in our welfare spending.

Govt imposes spending rules on themselves, fall foul of these ‘rules’, then cut their arm off to meet these ‘rules’ and blame people at the bottom for the fact they only have one arm.

It's not lazy at all, ignoring part of the problem is lazy. People like you pretending you live in some form of utopia where no one is working the system is part of the issue.

No one has an issue with people who are truly disabled and struggling to make ends meet. But the fact is the number of people claiming welfare for some form of dissability has increased massively and that is just not correct when our population has got healthier. I object to paying for freeloaders, and we have a lot of them these days.

This argument exists only in your head. No one mentioned a utopia or some people don’t game the system. Some people will always game the system and no Govt will ever eradicate that, but they will harm genuine claimants in their attempts to do so and that is my issue.

Even if they did go back into work, most of the those people would then be being paid tax credits anyway, saving the country precious little money.

I know as I know this person very well and they had a good, infact excellent success rate.

I had mixed feelings about dole fraud, for various reasons, but PIp and particularly motability scheme abuse really fires me up. As you say virtually no power now to detect and prosecute.
Once again, what pisses ou off so much about mobilit scheme?

Well the amount of people gaming the system, ie cheating it and doing every body else out of it has nearly doubled. Is that acceptable to you? If not, then you should get behind any initiative that gets those numbers down rather than trying to brush it under the carpet in your usual socialist utopia fashion.

Why do you think the number of people gaming the system has doubled in the last 5 years? Have people just become lazier in the last 5 years, or is there another reason?

The work shy argument is the same as the the immigrant argument. Shifting blame.

Here's another thing how about reducing unemployment benefit for people who don't apply and keep jobs.

The amount of people claiming has nearly doubled. And I believe that the majority of those could work, given that we haven't suddenly all got less healthy as a population. Other countries don't have this issue as far as I'm aware.

If you can come up with a way to weed these people out without making the real disabled peoples’ lives worse, then I’ll listen.

Until then, you have good intentions, but with no prospect of it actually working.

For a start we need to stop making assessments remotely via just forms or video calls. Those with obvious physical disabilities should be automatically excluded from further assessments. That would be a start.

I posted pages back that they need to revert to getting evidence from their GPs rather than outsourcing assessments to private contractors with targets.

There must be a way to create a computer program that the DWP and GPs can both access and add the relevant information.

The biggest issue is that the spongers will always scam the system, however much you try to shut the loopholes.

Make the penalties harsh for those found cheating is another thing they could do.

I agree entirely with what you say, the issue I have is with GP's. Down here we just cannot get an appointment with a GP... and when you do it is always a different GP every time, our surgery is full of Locums.

But I repeat I do agree with your basic principles and that spongers will always scam the system. The question is: Is the NHS broken beyond repair, which IMO is down to under investment and mismanagement over the last 20/30 years, or have we the means and finance to save it?
