The Labour Government

This was always going to be Labours' problem with such a big majority; discipline. Its far easier to run a tight ship with a small crew.
Not sure that majority size and discipline matter too much when you’ve got a sex offending nonce in the ranks!

With the imminent closure of the Scunthorpe blast furnace in the next few months, this will be the end of steel making in the UK. A sad day for British industry nearly 300 years after Abraham Derby perfected the Blast Furnace method. The UK will be the only G20 country that can't make it's own steel.

And before those reply, a reminder, electric Arc furnaces don't make steel! they just recycle old steel and the steel isn't as good a quality.

Dissapointing, especially after both main parties have been on record in the past decade stating that steel making was an essential core industry that needed to be retained by the UK.

Scunthorpe is pretty grim as it stands, losing such a significant employer will decimate what's left of the local economy.

Shame it was privatised.

Yet we are reliant on imported feedstock. Recycling will at least make us theoretically self sufficient - not to dismiss your concerns with quality.

For various reasons there is very little we are self sufficient on food included if we carry on building on agricultural land this will only get worse

Labour have nationalised (bailed it out at Taxpayers expense) it twice ....each time the Tories went and sold it off again when they got into power.

There has to be a learning curve.

No there doesn't.

So you want the taxpayer to continuously bail out British Steel so that the Tories can then sell it off to their mates at a cheap price ?

I didn't say that, you clearly haven't grasped the fact that there are other ways of suporting British industry. Only two months ago you thought British Steel was still British owned until I pointed out to you it wasn't and you quickly googled and found out I was correct.

No offence but it's not really worth debating things like this with you, your default position on all things political is so predictable.
