The Labour Government

The Chancellor's stance doesn't fill me with confidence, reducing tarriffs on US imports before negotiations start. So we are not retaliating just seemingly rolling over. I would not have started any negotiations like that.

It seems to me that she's wangling for a trade deal of some sort or any win really on the economy. It might be an opportunity to take advantage of stupidity actually because I don't think Trump's gang really know what they're doing.

She'll be sacked after the local elections.

Hearing she's going to be the scapegoat for the expected labour losses to the facists.

Hearing from who?
Talking to a senior labour bod at a union conference.

We had a discussion about the party appeasing reform and I think it will bite them on the arse. Was told if the losses are huge to expect a drastic change of course starting with a new fiscal policy.

Why wait till then was my response to that.

They think it won't happen.

Leadership are dismissing the Reform ground game to their cost.

It's a tough job, appeasing everyone.

Reducing tariffs on imported US cars from 10% to 2.5% isn’t that much of a giveaway when hardly any RHD cars are manufactured there. Most US companies manufacture their RHD cars abroad. It’s a nice easy giveaway if it opens the door to a deal on UK exports, and if it doesn’t we’ve not lost much. If the Americans were competent they’d realise this but Trump has appointed idiots who care more about sound bites than reality and if they can trumpet this giveaway as a big win it could be beneficial to us.

No way mate. Starmer doesn’t survive that.

All decisions were on his watch, and whoever he appoints (Streeting?) as his next chancellor is going to want the top job.

If Reeves goes then Starmer won’t be there this time next year. If he is stupid enough to do it then it will certainly cement the impression of a man who makes really bad choices. Of course it will be spun as him making decisive choices / being strong blah blah blah.

Couldn’t put it better myself .
Imagine being a people smuggler looking for clients - look the British government are getting houses ready for you !
Some might say cheaper than hotels as if that is the point .

Given the seats that are up in the locals, the only story in town is likely to be Tory losses to Reform.

Polling predictions are potential losses that could easily hit 500 for the Tories, but Labour are defending so few seats that their losses will be in the 10s (and a few pollsters have predicted they could gain a few seats).

Something that has been going on for decades - guaranteed contracts for housing homeless people and asylum seekers is not a new policy.

As far as the people smugglers go, most of the research I've seen suggests that people wanting to come to the UK turn out to be incredibly ignorant about our benefits system, or housing situation. They're much more likely to come from countries that have English as a second language, or know that there are communities from their country already in the UK. If it was just down to housing, or benefits etc., then you wouldn't risk your life when there are plenty of other countries that offer similar, or take in a lot more refugees.
