The Labour Government

How Keir Starmer still has the audacity to stand when his entire basis was built upon the bringing of the house of commons back in line and not further taxing the lower tax bracket. You could not make it up. Labour and Conservative are now working together to reject all Reform members from local government so that the Status Quo can be maintained. I am not a great fan of Reform, but I cannot stand anymore of the ridiculousness that goes on in the House of Commons.

Yep. Welsh Labour are now suddenly very keen on PR after years of rejecting it, only because they've now realised the only way to stop Reform is to have a Marxist coalition of Welsh Labour and Plaid.

I wouldn't even be surprised if Labour and the Tories formed a coalition to prevent Reform from winning the next General Election, the two of them are already the RedBlue Uniparty anyway.

As you say, anything to maintain the status quo.

Democorruptcy in action!

The status quo might be shit but it's still better than Reform so unless someone comes along that's better than the status quo then I'm all for keeping Reform out - if that's an unlikely Lab/Con coalition or voting Lib Dem/Green then so be it. Personally, I'd like to see a government where the Lib Dems and the Greens have a say as well because they can both can bring something useful to the table and they can help keep the other 2 main parties in check, but Reform can go and get fucked. You think it's shit now but I guarantee that if Reform got in then it would be a damn sight shitter.

Surely Reform haven't proven one way or another whether they'll honour their various policy commitments?

I don't dispute there's every possibility they won't honour their commitments and they'll turn out to be just as damaging to the UK as the status Quo we've had in place for so long now.

What policy commitments are those? I can't see too many but to take the biggest one of the lot - they were banging on about increasing the tax-free personal allowance to £20,000 but as soon as they got questioned on it as to how it would be paid for, they scrapped that idea. If they're binning off major policies like that nearly 4 years out from a General Election then I'd love to see what their manifesto looks like with 6 months to go.

They are as close together as they have ever been in fairness, well the cabinet are. Some of their MPs have stood up to Starmer and Reeves so credit is due there.

They've clarified they won't reduce taxes until they've firstly reduced spending which seems entirely logical to me, I'm not sure how anyone thought they could do it any other way?

Obviously the biggest issue that matters to the majority of the voting public is their commitment to reduce immigration, who knows if they'll honour that commitment or if they'll be just as bad as the status quo when it comes to allowing mass immigration to continue at its current catastrophic levels.

If immigration matters to the majority of the public, how come they're only polling at around 30%? That's because most people aren't gullible enough to think immigration is the main issue or the only issue.

As for reducing taxes, Tice was banging on a couple of months back that they were definitely going to bring in the £20,000 tax-free allowance. Now they're coming up with excuses as to why they can't do it. Fact is that they'll never do it even if they do manage to reduce spending. And they'll struggle to reduce spending anyway, given that they've completely and utterly failed to do it at local level.

They're a shambles of a party - run by grifters and chancers and full of incompetence and inexperience

I’m tired of all the media hype over Reeves and of politicians who know full well once elected to parliament they have to be whiter than white.
It’s not difficult to double check your paperwork and find your up to date and everything is in order.

Moving into a prime location number 11 Downing Street rents her Dulwich home for £3,200 a month. and fails to fill in the appropriate paperwork.

It reflects on her position as Chancellor of the Exchequer and taking care of the public purse who else can be “trusted” to replace her

She didn't fail to complete the paperwork .... the Letting Agents did. Granted she should've followed up to ensure that the correct paperwork was in place ...... but something tells me that with the shit show that Labour have inherited she was distracted.

The fact that she changed her initial story so completely, and in such short order, is the most damning aspect of this.

You would hope that the Chancellor of the Exchequer would have a bit more about themselves, but sadly this isn't the case.

It was a desperate search in the dustbin from the Daily Mail and the outraged sheep all piled on as if it was a Watergate moment, shows how pathetic it all is nowadays.

Politicians always keep their promises eh? Did you get levelled up? Do you live near one of those 40 new hospitals?

Or imagine this scenario:

You suddenly become the 2nd most important politician in the country and within a couple of weeks you're moving home and renting out the one you own. You get your partner to deal with the trivia whilst you're now dealing with the country as a whole. However the couple communicated during that time, we won't know, but I bet there wasn't much time for in-depth conversations. You have employed a company to carry out a professional service and they have advise that they will resolve the licence issue. They fail to do so and neither spot that £900 hasn't left their account, and neither do the agents follow up on their commitment to apply for the licence nor bill them for the work not carried out.

I managed to get my wife's car on the road without an MOT a few years ago as a result of the pandemic changing MOT dates. Embarassing- yes, my fault-yes, my wife's fault-no because I was the one who sorted that stuff out.

The DM and RW press and many on here were quite happy when the independent adviser found against Rayner and now are now calling foul when the result is the other way round.

You should always leave a paper or email trace nowadays, to not do so is either dishonesty or stupidity. I'm not sure we want the Chancellor to have either of those traits.

I think the easiest way to look at what is likely to happen with Reform in power is by looking west to Trump's America. The playbook is very similar and the networks operating behind the scenes suggest very close ties.

Forget individual policies, I think the defining question for anyone thinking of voting Reform out of frustration with the two main parties is do you want to live under a version of Trumpism because that's what you'll get. With one key difference...

The main difference is that we don't have the critical mass and economic heft and resilience to survive some of the things going on over there. We'll be put to the sword much quicker than the US ever would be.
