The Liverpool Thread

Liverpool made their position perfectly clear, the name of their football club is more important than the issue of racism.

Thats why instead of using a very unfortunate incident in a positive way to re-state that racist abuse is unacceptable under any circumstances they have fought anyone and everyone who thinks that is the case. Instead of zero tolerance their message is that racism is unacceptable unless you are confused as to what is acceptable, or provoked, or a good footballer and then you are canonised for it.

They and they alone have created an environment ripe for an underclass of scum that think it's ok to attack someone for reporting racist abuse, or issue (often racist) abuse to anyone who questions the actions of your club and it's representatives.

And knowing they've created this environment, and that people are suffering because of it what have they done about it.

Fuck all, thats what. So while what happened last night was exactly what Liverpool didnt want, they can't avoid all responsibility for it.

Man arrested over alleged abuse of Oldham footballer Tom Adeyemi Tom Adeyemi was visibly upset after the incident at Anfield
Police investigating an incident of alleged racist abuse by fans at Anfield towards Oldham Athletic defender Tom Adeyemi have arrested a man.

An investigation was launched after Friday night's Liverpool v Oldham FA Cup third-round game.

Merseyside Police said a 20-year-old man from Aintree, Merseyside, was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence.

The man is being held in custody and being interviewed by detectives.

The game was stopped briefly while Adeyemi - on loan from Norwich - alerted referee Neil Swarbrick to the incident.

On Saturday evening, Liverpool issued a statement, saying: "Liverpool Football Club continue to work closely with Merseyside Police to establish all the facts surrounding the incident that occurred during last night's game.

"We take this matter extremely seriously and have today provided the police with the evidence we currently have available to us."

The incident compounds a difficult few weeks for Liverpool, who were without Luis Suarez for the match against the Oldham as the striker serves an eight-match ban for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra at Anfield in October.

If only they did the same with the Suarez case? This is beyond ridiculous....

BREAK SOME LEGS FOR US DIPPERS

We'll accept your request for a favour ;D

Hi I'm Darryl only really registered today to ask a a favour of City fans.

I'm a Liverpool fan as you can probably see by my user name.

Its Hilsborough related help I need, but I won't be able to ask the question until I can post a topic, unless a kind moderator or user will help me out.

Maybe in time we can form a question and answers debate between this forum and the one I frequent in the build up to matches between Liverpool & City.

Thank you.

Heres my question if a moderator or user with privellages could make a thread for me thanks.

Hi Guys I'm here today asking for your help Annie Williams needs signatures to have an Inquest opened about her son Kevins death at Hillsborough.

Footballing rivalries aside, its about loss of life. No one deserves to go to a game and not come home let alone a 15 year old boy.

Please take 5 minutes to read Annies Story & think what if this was your son, sister, brother, father, mother you'd want closure, wouldn't you ?

[news=E-petition: Give Kevin Williams his inquest]

KEVIN WILLIAMS died in the Hillsborough disaster in 1989 and his mother Anne is still trying to get justice for her son. Could he have lived if the ambulances lined up outside the ground had been allowed in? As mentioned on Episode 24 of The Anfield Wrap, an e-petition is nearing the end of its allotted time and needs a massive boost to get up towards the required 100,000 signatures. Please sign it, confirm the email you’ll get back and pass the link on to everyone you know.

The official ruling after Hillsborough was that all the victims were dead or brain dead by 3.15pm due to “traumatic asphyxia” but Anne has evidence that Kevin was still alive at 4pm, that he was seen breathing and with a pulse and that he even cried out to a woman police officer for his mum after the 3.15pm cut-off. It’s a terrible story in itself – but the story gets worse because it still hasn’t been told in the way it should be, at an inquest, because someone decided nothing that happened after 3.15pm made a difference to the eventual deaths of the 96 victims.

Had Kevin been given oxygen between 3.15pm and 4pm, would he still be here today? That’s why Anne wants an inquest. She explains some of the problems she’s faced – and using the word “problem” is an understatement – alongside the e-petition calling once more for an inquest for her son:

Give Kevin Williams his inquest under section 13 of the Coroner’s Act; we have all the evidence under this section but keep getting refused.

Kevin’s inquests were riddled with corruption, suppressing of vital evidence and perverting the course of JUSTICE.

Kevin did not die from traumatic asphyxia or in an accident. I will not pick up his death certificate until we get the cause of death put right and the accidental death verdict struck down.

Kevin does not relate to the 3.15pm cut off point.

I want a new inquest where all the witnesses will be called to give evidence so the jury will know exactly what happened to Kevin at Hillsborough. I have all the evidence under section 13 of the Coroner’s Act and have been refused three times by the Attorney General’s office.

I want the Attorney General to look at the evidence again and send Kevin’s case back to the divisional court recommending a new inquest into the death of my son.

Please sign the e-petition, it closes in two weeks and so your signature is needed now, not tomorrow, if you can just spare five minutes. You can even sign it using your mobile phone or tablet browser if that’s what you’re reading this on.

Remember – you must follow the instructions in the email you get after signing the petition. If you don’t do this your signature doesn’t count. If you’ve not had the email within about half an hour of signing then you should probably try again with a different email address. You can always sign up for a free email address from Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo if the email doesn’t come through to your normal email address for some reason.

He was 15 when he died. 15. He died 22 years ago. Please spare 5 minutes and spare Anne any more time waiting for some justice.

And if you can – please spread the word.[/news]

Thank you people.

There is a lot of signatures needed for it still, I hope she gets them all. I signed it for what it's worth.

Thank you mate I really appreciate it, I'm joinng forums of all the premier League clubs trying to drum up support for Annie, I don't know her personally but I'm mystified to the lack of Signatures that this has recieved so far, so hopefully with the help of good fans like you and others hopefully we might help her hit the target she requires.

Signed

It's the first I've heard about it, mind. Maybe it needs to be plugged a little more? I haven't seen it on twitter or anything like that

Re: Andy Carroll blowing his chance- Martin Samuel

Did a search and this thread came up.

Seriously, how shite is Andy Carroll. He managed to tackle himself on the left wing yesterday and pass the ball to a City player. On another occasion he turned to run onto a high ball only to have it bounce off his back - I was pmsl both times. His only real contribution last night was a header that was vaguely near the target.

£35m to have a huge immobile lump with no ball control skills stood at the front of your team. He is going to be back on the subs bench as soon as Suarez is back without a doubt.

In a years time the dippers will cut their losses and sell him for max £15m (if they're lucky) to some hit and hope long ball team. They may even end up in the same situation as us with Badabuyor and RSC, we can't even shift them because of wages and the sorts of teams that want an "Andy Carroll type" a) won't have £15m and b) won't want to pay anything like his dippers wages.

Re: Andy Carroll blowing his chance- Martin Samuel

He is totally shit but I felt sorry for him in that second half. His midfield were nowhere near him and everyone just booted it up to him from their own area

Re: Andy Carroll blowing his chance- Martin Samuel

The time in the second half, when he was running towards the dugout, in the centre circle and he managed to kick it with both feet was funny as fuck. You'd be embarrased if a sunday league player managed to do that for your team, he'd never hear the end of it lol.

Dzeko gets some stick on here but imagine if we'd signed Carroll !!!

To lead the line or miss the bus? Time for Carroll to decide

By Martin Samuel

Andy Carroll has to decide what kind of footballer he wishes to be.

Is it his aim to become England's starting No 9, while leading the line at the most rapidly improving club in the Premier League; or his destiny to sit on the sidelines derided as a waste of money, before his telephone lights up in May for Fabio Capello to deliver football's equivalent of the Dear John letter, terse and final, with no way back.

There is a massive opportunity for Carroll and he is blowing it. Right now, both of his teams - the one that paid £35million for him and the one that considered him the answer to their prayers little more than five months ago - do better without him.

Kenny Dalglish, the Liverpool manager, has been staunch in his defence of the striker so far, but team selection speaks louder than words and Carroll did not start Liverpool's last two matches before the international break.

Capello did not even have him on the bench for the game in Bulgaria, a decision that places Carroll behind Wayne Rooney, Jermain Defoe, Darren Bent, Ashley Young and perhaps even Theo Walcott. Carroll is now England's fourth choice, at best.

Last March, scoring against Ghana in a lively display, he was considered the future. Capello has been searching for a striker like Carroll since starting the job in 2008.

Over lunch in the weeks before his first game, he spelled out England's need for a battering ram spearhead in the style of Italy's Luca Toni. If all else failed, he hoped Rooney might fit the bill.

It was clear from there that Michael Owen's days were numbered. The manager never found England's Toni and settled instead for Emile Heskey, who satisfied the physical demands of the role but posed little threat as a goalscorer.

Then along came Carroll. Hallelujah, praise the Lord and pass the Communion wine. On second thoughts, better keep that corked for now.

Capello has gone public before on his fear that Carroll does not live a life conducive to the highest level of performance and nothing he has seen this season has convinced him of any change since the £35m transfer to Liverpool. He is not alone.

Rumblings of disquiet over Carroll's refuelling preferences have emanated from Liverpool for some time. Carroll has had a persistent knee problem but that is not the only reason his form and fitness are felt to be failing, and concern stretches all the way from the medical wing to the dressing room.

For public consumption, Capello plays the diplomat. 'Andy needs to find good form,' he said in Sofia.

'I choose 25 players and the first XI are the players that, for me, are in the best moment. Andy didn't play the last game for Liverpool, and probably he is not at the top. He needs to play, though.

'Right now, some players are really fresh, really good, they run a lot and the last 20 minutes we had everything because of this, ball possession, chances to score, we were winning and we were at our best. When a player like Andy is fit and at the top of form he will be important and with the number of games being played, he should be fit in a very short time. I hope so.'

Privately, however, he is worried. Having decided that Carroll and Rooney were the way forward, Capello is now highlighting the inventive interchanges between Rooney, Young, Walcott and Stewart Downing. Where would a heavy, cumbersome target man fit into that? The simple answer is that he wouldn't.

Rooney talked of leaving his fitness programme at home and just enjoying a break this summer, but he has been on football's treadmill for almost a decade now, without respite. He needed to recharge, to let off steam, too.

Carroll also seems to have had what the Flintstones might call a gay old time, but to what end?

This was a summer to prioritise fitness on his return. Instead, infuriatingly,
he still appears sluggish and was not even considered for a start in Bulgaria despite Bent’s fitness struggle.

Will he play in Liverpool’s next match against Stoke on Saturday? Only if
Dalglish decides to slug it out against physically imposing opposition. If he
opts for the starting XI that has worked best this season, Carroll will
be a spectator.

Newcastle United were the perfect club for Carroll. Expectations are low
on Tyneside these days, so he could be the talk of the Toon, go out and bang a goal on Saturday and, regardless of the result, return to the centre that night as the local hero.

Nobody cared if he liked a beer; in fact, they loved that he did. Liverpool are different; Liverpool with a £35m price tag even more so.

With that comes responsibility; with ambition comes the need for intense focus. It is not Dalglish's way to expose his players to criticism, but he is no fool.

More than anyone, he will be able to separate myth from reality on Merseyside. Ultimately, the decision rests with the player. Against Arsenal, Liverpool were the superior team, but victory only seemed assured once Luis Suarez replaced Carroll late on.

At home to Bolton, the job was also done without him, his delayed entry an irrelevance. England then won 3-0 in Bulgaria and may have unearthed a new plan A.

This bus will leave whether Carroll is on board or not; and Dalglish and Capello are running no jolly boys' outing.

Thank fuck we bought Dzeko.

A lot of rumours going around that he is at strip clubs all hours of the night, from Liverpool fans no less. Anyone see him?

There was a picture on Twitter the other day of Carroll passed out on some sofa's in a club with a bottle of stella in his hand. I know he's young but he needs to sort his priorities if he is going to make it.
