The Nigel De Jong Appreciation thread

Poor poor business by City. De Jong should be filled alongside some of the others as a City legend. We will be a worse side and squad without him.

Gutted Nige is leaving, top player & top bloke and a signing that was paramount to our rise as a force. Good luck for the future big man :)

To be fair to the club and RM, Big Nige is out of contract at the end of the season. We have offered him deals clearly but he has not accepted them, his call. It's a shame but we have been backed into a corner either we a) Throw his whatever cash he wanted and wait for the queue of all the other players doing the same (and advertise to the outside world we are a soft touch when it comes to wages) b) let him run down his contract and lose him for nothing or c) Sell him now at a reasonable price given the current market conditions,.

That said NDJ was nothing other than committed and professional on the pitch and for that he has earned our admiration and respect. I only wish it wasnt to Milan who I hate given our transfer "issues" with them since we joined them at Europe's top table but nethertheless I wish him well.

Big thanks to Nige, a top bloke and has done a fantastic job for us. No hard feelings, he's good enough to be playing in a top team every week, hope he gets what he wants at AC.

I know legend is not a word people like to use around here but he's a legend in my eyes. His off the field character is ace and he's a fantastic player.

Pissed myself after the fa cup win when he was dancing in his sandles with Jo.

Terrible decision to let Nige leave imho.

I'm just a punter, season ticket holder for years, do not profess to know what goes on behind the scenes at the club but to let De Jong go for next to nothing is very disappointing.

Great Champions League draw though!

Thanks nige enjoyed watching you play, gutted you've gone but that's football. Good luck in Milan.

I'm gutted. This is not a good move for the team and a terrible bit of business for the club.

I thought our squad was too small as it was last season and we only just managed to win the league with the last kick of the season. Yet we're selling one of our most important squad players? Someone who will play excellently and to his best every time he's asked to and never moans about being on the bench. He's infinitely more reliable than most other players just on the outside of the XI. In many games he'd be the man we need to be a starter in the XI.

I don't understand. Is not like three or four million pounds is going to benefit us. If he helped us progress from the Champions League Group Stage he'd help us to earn £2.37m and that's only going into the Round of 16. So the "cash in before he can go for free next Summer" doesn't wash with me.

Fucking shit! Take a while to get over this, one of my favourites.

Absolutely stunned and gutted. Nothing that transpires tomorrow will come close to making up for this and we all know it deep down. No toys being thrown out of pram here - we've had a fantastic four years beyond all comprehension. Just saying, this is a low.
Only this.

Shit business by the club this. Does anybody get the feeling we are taking 2 steps back? The signings we have made have been shit lets be honest, every player we wanted has gone elsewhere or stayed at their club, every one of our rivals has strengthened...im not usually a glass half empty kind of guy but im really worried about this season. Slate me if you like but im predicting 3rd place in the league & no trophys.

surprised he`s being sold considering our squad size, and the tough Champions league draw.Goodluck Nige

Even though I had been aware of this b/c of all the talk, I am still surprised and disappointed that we're letting him go. I hope we don't regret this.

Good luck Nigel, you've been wonderful for our the club and your teammates.
