The Squad planning thread

Where was that mate? Seen the press conference late last night where he said he expected 80/90% of the squad but nothing else since?

It's on the official website pal

Cant see us doing much business this window, reading between the lines.
But would be suprised if we didnt make ONE more signing. Clearly Pep feels we need a centre mid after Phillips and Nunes, but they havent worked.
Can see us making a move for Bruno or Kimmich as a cheaper option, based solely on rumours of course.

We need fresh players coming in as we looked jaded to fuck last season and only just got over the line . We have savio coming in so our wings are taken care off but we need cover for Rodri and that is must . I also think we should have looked at frimpong aswell .

I'm not sure winning our final 9 games in a row with a combined difference of 24 goals to seal the title, really counts as only 'just getting over the line'. But a fresh player or two in place of the two that will undoubtedly leave, would indeed be welcome.

Are people really that surprised we aren't gonna have a huge rebuild this summer?

We've already brought in Savio who seems like he'll join the first team, expect bigger roles for Rico & Bobb this year and potentially some of the other academy players like Wilson-Esbrand, McAtee, Perrone etc.

Then as has been reported if a KDB, Ederson, Bernardo, Alvarez, Walker etc. leave they will be replaced, but if they dont leave then our squad hasn't space for anyone new

Same way that Arsenal are waiting on their 1st move far only close to signing a CB, arguably their strongest area at present, Liverpool have signed no-one, Villa are in a mix of selling their best players and buying some quality, Spurs have signed a kid, United are United and Chelsea are buying players from the Championship while alienating their home grown talent

The new PSR rules seem to be playing on everyone's minds, and think clubs are still figuring out what each other will do

This guy appears to have a very low release clause for someone who's really highly regarded.... yet nobody seems genuinely interested in him

Maybe his defensive shortcomings aren't desired for the elite teams with a conve tional back 4 formation

Can't say ive seen enough of him to make a call, but seems quite telling that no-one is interested

could have told them all he's taking a break after the tournament and will deal once he's back from holiday. He'd be daft to leave Leverkusen till Alonso does imo, system and manager is perfect for him right now

Except his release clause has now (apparantly) expired so it's harder for clubs to negotiate for him

He was available and nobody jumped at it, now he's way less likely to move

As I said, think his defensive frailties have stopped anyone from going for him

Think it will be

Ederson/Ortega/Carson

Walker/Akanji/Dias/Stones/Gvardiol/Ake/Lewis

Rodri/Kovacic/+1

KDB/Foden/Nunes/Bernado/McAtee

Bobb/Grealish/Doku/Savio

Haaland/Alvarez

Club trained: Foden, Bobb, McAtee, Lewis
Home grown: Grealish, McAtee, Foden, Walker, Ake, Carson, Lewis, Stones

We should be buying quality players now. We won the treble a year ago! Our stock has never been higher. If we don’t sign at least two quality players this window then we will go backwards, particularly if Ederson goes too.

If quality players go they will be replaced. But why keep buying quality players, are we pushing any one out?

The squad needs to evolve and that involves moving players on and bringing in fresh hungry players who are eager to win the next treble because I don’t care what anyone says when you have won everything there is to win and trophy’s every year you start to take a slight step back and befire you know it we are being caught up . It’s like Kyle Walker who for me would be let go in the summer and replaced by a younger hungrier player . We have had the best times ever with these players and I know everyone wants them to stay every season but in the end sentiment can catch up with us .

Whilst I agree we also committed to giving Walker a new contract. Look at Madrid probably a prime example of what you are saying they’ve kept Kroos and Modric for years and players like them before. It’s balance.

We have a small squad and 90% players are happy with game time. Alvarez wants to go because of game time, ederson is money. Most players are happy so why would they leave?

"We should be buying quality players now."

It must be a decade plus since we did that ;)

It's not an exact science, but equally we don't want to find ourselves in a situation whereby Pep leaves at the end of 24/25 and his immediate successor finds himself having to replace Walker, De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva in one transfer window.
It needs to be a gradual process with ideally at least one potential upgrade arriving this summer

Strange summer this.

Pre season a bit pointless with so many key players missing due to euros

Lack of transfers which is odd after winning league again last year whilst rivals strengthen.

If pep was staying longer we would be signing players. I really see this being his last season and lack of activity is to allow a new manager a fresh start which makes sense.

Not going to be an easy season this
